Flying lures

Recommended Posts

Do any of you remember flying lures? the ones that swim away from you when you lift the rod tip.The old man that I take fishing with me gave me a unused  box of them. Should try I try them or is it a waste of time. In what situation would they be good for?

Haha...there's probably a reason he gave them to you. If the old man pulls out a pack of Helicopter Lures next time, let him know I have a nice plot of swamp land that he might want to invest in.

Helicopter Lures

I can't believe Roland Martin even put his name on those.

I have a set of Flying Lures, my now ball and chain gave them to me as a present, needless to say I can 't get rid of them or ...... :).

Do they work ? yes they do

However that sink away from you action can be found in many of today 's baits, that swim away action is wat made them good for fishing for example under docks or fishing rip rap. As I said, many of today 's baits have that same action, they are cheaper and don 't need no stinkin "special" jighead, you can purchase them in many colors and with your ordinary EWG hook you get the same action, it 's just a matter of rigging the bait right.

Baits that sink away:

Sweet Beaver

Yamamoto Senko

Yamamoto Fat Ika

Now if you want to go a little bit more exotic:

Imakatsu Dynagone ( BTW ! DelMart Has the mold so you can pour your own ;) )

BaitBreath Teardrop

Get yourself a package of Fat Ikas, rig them skirt up and you will have more success with a better lure.  It has the same "swim away" action with a much better profile.

Yes, I just recommended a Yamamoto product.  Hell may now freeze...

That's a blast from the past!!!   They do work, I've actually caught some nice bass on those.  They worked great for getting under the docks.  You can also annoy the 'you know what' out of bedding fish too, because you can jig them and they drop right back into their nose!

I wouldn't really compare these to the Helicopter, the Flying lures are basically tubes that go backwards because of the jig head.  Tubes still work, so these should too.  The Helicopter was just plain garbage.

And you will probably catch fish!  They are not a magic lure but they will catch fish under the right conditions.

Yep, Fat Ika does that too (if rigged backward) sort of!

Speaking of Helicopter lure, remember R. Martin does with the Rocket reel too, ridiculous. Not to mention he is sponsored by MegaStrike, he is the reason I hesitate to try it. His reputation speaks itself.

Wasnt that rocket reel that piece of junk that shot the lure out into the water?

Work they do, definitely. I bought it when I was a newbie and caught fish. I lost many of the jigs that came with it so they can't be used and I haven't used them since then about 4 seasons back.

Raul is right about those other lures that can mimic the swimming away motion.

Yep, not a lure, a floater with hook ::)

Pathetic in my book. I mean does he not want the kids to learn how to cast? A good role model  :;)
