Fishing Bridge Rip-Rap?

Featured Replies

I put the nose of the boat right into the shore of the rip rap and then cast parallel to the shore line putting my bait 2 to 5 feet from shore.  The shore line most of the time is a steep drop off and most of the fish will hold close to shore, keeping your bait in the "strike zone" for the whole cast!

I've had the best luck keeping the boat a good distance from the rip-rap and throwing a deep running crank bait right up to the rocks then cranking it out 90* from the rap. I know it's not in the strike zone that long but it seems the fish are waiting for the bait fish to be banged on the rocks and knocked silly which are easier to catch. to each his own but it works for me.

My #1 lure around rip rip-rap bridges is a shaky head worm. Spinnerbaits and crankbaits are also good. There are alot of baitfish around bridge rip-rap.

Has anyone else busted a crankbait on the bottom of a bridge when you just wanted a longer cast?  (It was a very low bridge)

I have smacked the side walls before trying to make the crankbait look like a stunned baitfish. I have also busted a few doing it. I roll cast a lot so that I don't hit the top often.
