it would be cool if a person's location was displayed under their name.  there are a lot of times i am interested in knowing where a person is fishing and it's kind of a pain to go to their profile page.

You can do that when setting up your profile and signature. Look at mine, left side at the bottom.

RW - I think he was saying it'd be cool if the forum software automatically pulled the "Location" value from your profile for display somewhere on your posts - be it under the avatar, in the sig, wherever.  As far as I can tell, this isn't the case.  In your example, you'd still have to manually copy your location into your signature...right?  Or maybe I'm missing something?

Right, gotcha - that part I get. The location (from your profile) however does not appear automatically - unless I'm somehow just being dumb :D

I'm thinking the take-away here is this:

"If you want your location to appear on your posts, you need to either add it to your signature or your personal text"

I guess this just goes back to the original post on this thread - it would be cool if the location was surfaced somewhere in your posts automatically, instead of buried in your profile page.

BUT, I don't mean to beat a dead horse, I'm fine with it either way. I'll let it go... :)

this has come up before.  Personally, I also like to know where someone is from.  Their location and age are two factors that might affect how I answer their post.

I can understand why newbies may not want to share anything beyond the minimum amount required to register, but it would definitly be helpful.  Once a person feels comfortable with the other members it would be in their interest to id their location.

Putting your state or region in your sig brings it up ever time.

Said it before -

It does no good to give Texas waters advice to someone fishing New Hampshire - without the knowledge of the inquirers location most answers will be total guesswork.

I put mine under my Avatar.....Now I just need to get a picture in my avatar. I like the one that's there now very much but since this is a fishin' forum I need one with my mug in it holding a really awesome bass.....Now, to catch an awesome bass and have a picture taken.......I gotta go! ;D

If you go into your Profile and click Options you can put your location under Personal Text and that will put your location under your Avatar. OR you can put it in your Signature. :D

I agree that it would be very helpful if the 'Location' and 'Age' fields

were automatically displayed on the front interface.

I find myself clicking the "Profile" button very frequently

just so I can provide a more helpful reply.

There will be members of course, who for some reason would rather not

reveal their Age and/or Location. So not to impose our will on them,

they can be instructed to simply omit that information on the data form,

so it will not appear.

Or, have an additional checkbox field for marking that info public vs. private.   :)
