Favorite Freshwater Fishing TV Show?

Recommended Posts

Well, I still enjoy watching Bill Dance and Roland Martin probably the best. Probably because I grew up watching them. I'll pretty much watch any Bass fishing show though.

I loved Hank Parker's show when I was a kid but now it is over produced and there is way to many flash backs, behind the scene shots, and Hank talking about the trip and not enough fishing.

I used to like watching Bass Masters but now there too much comentary from inside a studio and they add way too much drama.

Roland Martin is the only one I can think of that hasn't gotten worse, it's just as bad as it always was. Just one half hour long commercial.

Oh and Bill Dance, nothing like watching a guy fish in private waters to showcase his sponser's newest baits.

If I had to watch one show it would be with the Ultimate Match fishing or Linder's Angling Edge but UMF has it's share of faults.

Sorry if I sound too negative but I used to get up at 3:30 am on Saturday morning when I was in elementy school to catch the fishing shows because they were brodcast on east coast time and I am in California. I grew up loving these shows and to see what they have turned into just really bothers me. But maybe they were always like this and I was just too young to notice back then.

Lately, I have been enjoying the Bass Pro Shops show. I find it to be very informative. I like how they use a few different pros each episode to show different key techniques. Not to mention the whole show is on bass. On the other side, is Rolland Martin's show. I feel like he has completely sold out to sponsors and commercials. He can not go more than two minutes w/o dropping some sponsors name, sometimes even repeating that sponsor multiple times in one episode. For instance, accu view camera, lowrance electronics and his sun screen are mentioned every show at length. I have read that he is recently divorced and his wife took everythingmaybe that's why???

LOL i thought i was the only one who ever did that - my dad once ran downstairs to "catch me" watching something else but he saw it was just a fishing show.  I still got in trouble  ;D

The first fishing show I remember watching was the Orlando Wilson Fishing show(still have the jingle in my head). Hank Parker,Fish Fishburn,Bassmasters,Bill Dance,In Fisherman and Roland Martin are all shows I used to catch on the weekends but now I might get lucky if I see a fishing show. I cant say I have a fave anymore cause I just cant seem to find them on TV.

" have read that he is recently divorced and his wife took everythingmaybe that's why??? "

That news is so out of date as to be pathetic. We're talking years out of date.

This page is barraged with questions about sponsorship, yet those that actually have them are bashed for promoting them. Hillarious.

BILL DANCE AND IN=FISHERMAN; One of the best points of both shows they really showed how to use the stuff they used. They didnt just name breands they showed how and why they used them. For me that is a true sponsorship , they sold me a few products and I was always pleased.

It's a toss-up between "Bass Pros" and Al Lindner's "Angling Edge".

I always liked Larry Nixon's show when OLN carried it. He was very informative, always giving demonstrations on how to present a particular bait.

"The Bass Pros," sponsored by Bass Pro Shops is easily the most technique oriented show on the tube, so currently it is my favorite.  Bill Dance is still good to watch and would be my second choice.  I occasionally like "Angling Edge" and "In-Fisherman."  I watched Roland Martin at one time but I've found that, over the past few years, I really don't learn or receive reinforcement for any technique from him.

As a dyed in the wool cracker it pains me to say this, but I learn more from that Yankee Al Lindner than all the other TV fishermen combined. He teaches more about presentation, rigging, and boat control than anyone else. He does all this while promoting his sponsors' products in a way that doesn't make you feel like you are watching an infomercial. The only problem is those subtitles that the local station has to use so that we Southerners can understand him. ;)

Infidel hit it right on the head in his evaluation of the other shows. I get so tickled when I turn on Bill Dance and see that he is obviously catching his big fish in a phosphate pit where none of us can ever hope to fish.

Having seen some of the products Roland Martin has endorsed, he has about as much credibility as Ron Popiel.

Hey Olebiker:

How many head do you run. Are they mixed?

Thank goodness we starved off the farm a long time ago.  I don't miss going to the barn to milk one little bit.  We had the prettiest herd of Guernsey's you ever saw.  The only thing I am running now is two head of grandchildren and one old cat.

I'm pleased to see that someone knows where the term "cracker" came from and realizes it isn't an insult.

Anybody here remember Jimmy Rogers? I used to love watching that show. I ran into Jimmy several years back but didn't realize who he was until he had already walked away. I just kept thinking... "Where do I know that guy from?" :-/ I understand that he passed away a few years back. If so, that's sad to hear. I have fond memories of watching him use a Bang O Lure around the Water Hyacinths!  :'(

Low Budget Hookers.......No commercials!

Well ain't that just a fine thing to say, I appreciate that you appreciate ;)

I pretty much watch because if fishing is on and the tv has to be on,...so be it but the one thing I pay attention to like a student is the anything the Lindner's film, regarding any kind of bass.  The accent gets me and I wouldn't mind if they didn't push religion so much, but I suppose is isn't hurting anyone and who am I to tawk about an accent, lol.

Those boys have lived as fish in a previous life, I swear.

For the salt- BXRL!!! I have 4 friends that are on teams that compete in this league.  I love seeing my buddies on TV.

I used to really enjoy the fishin hole, but that was when i lived up nawth.  Jerry M. loved to fish for smallmouth and so did I.

I admire roland martin as a great angler but his show is basically the same every week.  "OH look, It's a giant, it's huge, that's a really big bass" but wait i have to put on some Bullfrog sunscreen because.........and so it goes.

I think the Bass Pro's and Bass Insider are really good.  They manage to put some drama into showing genuine techniques and showcasing different lure.

I miss Angler on Tour.  Poor Joe Thomas.  He had to come up with a different excuse every week.  ;D

Linder's Angling Edge and Scott Martin Challenge. For some reason, I like getting an insight into what Scott is thinking AS he is fishing. You don't see that much anymore.

For pure entertainment, I love "Babe Winkleman", probably cuz I'm a yankee too :)
