where did the weeds go?

Featured Replies

yesterday I went fishing and the pond was filled with grass and matted vegetation. then today i went fishing today and all of the weeds were gone! I didn't catch a thing and all the bass were gone. they weren't schooled up like they usually are. where did they go? and most importantly, and how do the fish react?

the pond is about 5 acres big. its a drainage pond that just got about 2 inches of rain.

My first question would be, what happened to the grass and weeds?

Why did they disappear?  Was it the result of a control program where the pond was dragged to get rid of that vegetation?  It seems something removed it from the pond.

How big a pond?  Public or private?  A reclaimation project?

Find out what happened to the vegetation, and you might find out what happened to the bass.

Could they have been netted for transplant, and in the process the vegetation got swept up as well?

Is the stuff on the shore, or has it vanished completely?

Any tracks from equipment or machinery around the pond that might give you a clue?

Where could the weeds have possibly gone in one day?

That's what I'm thinking, I haven't heard anything like it

Where did the weeds go? I think you smoked it all. You probably went to a different lake. Even pond weed killers don't work that fast.

The only thing I can think is, was it floating scum or was it actually weeds growing up from the bottom. If it was floating scum, that occurs at a pond I occasionally fish and on a windy day, the scum gets blown up on the bank and out of the water.

haha, agreed..

The water didn't happen to rise a foot or two??

My first thought was high water. 2" of rain equates to a lot more run off than a 2" rise.

ahhh!!! thats great.

nice one.

We have this crap weed, algae stuff we call "snotgrass".  When the surface temp hit about 78 it was gone in days.  Before that, it ran from the bank to about 20 feet out.  I hated it but bass hid under and in it.  Now, post spawn, they are scattered and harder to catch.
