Its dish soap in a spray bottle.    If you haven't ever noticed, some pros have super soakers in the boat during spawn, or spary bottles.

Pollins get matted on the water, by spraying the surface, it clears the pollen, allowing you to see into the water so you can see the bed clearly.

   ;)

How is that not HIGHLY illegal?

Why would it be illegal?  Just a surfactant to decrease the surface tension of the water.  It's just soap.

yeah, I don't see why a little dish soap should be frightening anyone especially considering how much crap comes out of all those motors...

Thanks for the explanation Matt. That is actually very clever.

Many soaps are biodegradable but nowhere near all of them, At our cabin in Ontario we are very careful to use only biodegradable products for anything that will be going into a drain as some of it will end up in the lake since we are on an island.

They definitely need the spray on Smith Mtn right now. I've had a bottle in my boat for 2 weeks. The pollen is thick here this year.

I believe Kelley Jordan was the first years ago to display this.   Thats not saying he discovered it.

KJ carries a super soaker that many thought he used to play with other guides on Fork.   With that said, I have never remembered seeing alot of pollen on Fork.

Ya know, keeping other guides at a distance as a joke.

Would love to have one of our travelling mods ask this question to KJ and other pros when the opportunity arises during an interview.

For those that don't know it, many an old trotliners used bar soap cut up for trotline bait.

It works still to this day.   Old trotliners make their own soap baits, just don't see or hear about it with all the other commercial baits available.

Thats what i thought he was doing. it also looks like he throws something white into the water at one point;

Frickin' cool. MAN I wish I had a boat and could try tourney angling.  I'm ultra highly competitive and think being in a fishing tourney would be absolutely amazing.

probably a weighted float to mark a nearby bed

pretty cool idea

Yeah- as long as whatever they are spraying is bio-degradeable. If not, it seems to go against everything B.A.S.S. stands for. Is it regulated in some way?

i thought that was what it was but he kept the boat moving and didn't go back. maybe he marked the spot for someone else...and I'm not happy that faircloth pointed the camera at his motor. lame

If I'm cruising the bank looking for beds, I'll throw a marker buoy at every one I see.  I may come back in 20 minutes, I may come back in 2 hours.

What video did you see this on?

  • Author

basscat on espn. would you through out a buoy and leave in a tourney where someone could come by behind you?

I think it's actually called BassTrakk...and I agree, it was pretty lame of Faircloth to do that, if in fact he knew it.

Yeah, Burley would throw out buoys during a tournament. He's a nice guy. ;)

Yeah I noticed this yesterday and watched him for a half hour. I was throughly confused. Thanks for clearing it up guys.
