So I recently purchased a pack of Storm sunfish as an impulse buy, and was wondering how well they would work fished under a float..

I fish a pond that has pretty thick weeds, and keeping the bait above the weeds is proving to be really difficult. My hope is that I could set the depth to be just above the weed line and be able to reel steadily and therefore fishing an area more efficiently. I know Storm swimbaits are not ultra realistic, but with the murky water I'd like to think they'd give the impression of a slow moving or suspended bluegill/sunfish.

Would this be a viable fishing technique, or am I completely off my rocker with this idea?

It could work... But I think there are better options available. What it seems like is that you have a swimbait with exposed hooks, so why not buy some swimbaits that you can rig weedless? Not only would it solve your problem, but it could potentially increase the amount of fish you catch. This way you're putting it closer to the strike zone of more fish by allowing the bait to go through the weeds rather than on top of them. Fish where the fish live, bass are opportunistic, the easier it is to catch their prey the more likely they'll go after it.

I think you'd have more success with a hollybelly type swimbait fished over the top of the weeds than you will with a Storm swimbait under a bobber. I have nothing against the Storm swimbaits but like you said they are not super realistic and sitting still under a bobber were a fish can really eyeball them probably isn't the best idea. Plus the tails don't move very well unless they are falling or you're reeling them along at a pretty good clip.
