Revo Or Curado...

Featured Replies

Well guys, im looking into uprgrading my reel. Ive been fishing baitcasters for about a year now with my a $100 field and stream combo that has got the job done. But now i want something that is quality and will last. I see most of the guys here use a Abu Garcia Revo or Shimano Curado. Both say they are great reels, if they are almost on the same page of quality and performance should i get the revo? because it is almost 100$ less than the curado, $250 is alot to come up with when your 15, lol. i need a job! ( but that takes away from fishing! )

i am a fan of Abu reels, i love my spinning reel from them!

but just some honest opinions on these reels, or maybe other reels that you guys have used!

Curado. If your on a budget look at a citica or a caenan. Also look in the flea market you will find a slightly used one for a good price just be patient and check everyday.

Go with a Curado... I may be going crazy, but I don't remember ever seeing a Curado for $100 more than a Revo. The SX or STX are 169/199 and the Curado is 179. You can even find them quite a bit cheaper than that with some Google searches.

I am also going to say Curado. I have 5 and a Citica and really like them all. I have a '10 SX that is a pretty good reel and an '09 Premeir that is going to the Flea Market soon. You'd think their top of the line reel would be better than a mid priced reel but it's not so. I had the Premier almost locked down and still had backlashes every other cast, it was ridiculous. I feel a centrifugal brake is far superior and more user friendly than the Revo mag brakes. Two VBS cent brakes on in 15-20mph winds and a few small overruns all week but 100% revo mag with a tight cast control will blow up in a slight breeze.

Try a BPS pro qualifier, cheaper than both and it is made by pure fishing so it is basicaly a revo.

Get what you want,I have both Revo and curado.Surprisingly I prefer the revo. Hand in hand the curado doesn't feel as sturdy.I also think the revo is a much more smoother reel.

Both are great reels, most reels in that price range will be.

They recommend Curado ....

They recommend Curado ....

or you could choose Revo ...

What revo are we talking about?

They recommend Curado ....

I think you posted the wrong picture, all the Shimano zombies would have smiles. ;)

That picture looks like what happens when you blindly recommend a "revo"

You really can't go wrong with either. Both are top-notch reels that will provide a long life of quality fishing. If possible, handle them both and choose the one that fits YOU the best. After all, you're the one who will be using it.

I have never used a Curado, so I can't comment on them. I do however have two Revo STXs. I really like them. I have not had problems with backlashing, even in windy conditions. I found my last STX on Ebay for $161.00 that included shipping. I have heard so many good things about the Curado on this site, so it must be a great reel. The reason I went with the Revo is because I fished with A BPS PQ for a while and I got used to the braking system, which is the same as the STX. I am sure you will be happy with either choice.

My personal preference is the Revo SX. Use whatever feels best to you. Both are quality options.

Try a BPS pro qualifier, cheaper than both and it is made by pure fishing so it is basicaly a revo.

Yea they are great reels and I have a Revo s and they look the same!

Just curious, and you don't have to name names, but do you as a reel rapairman ever encounter companies that continually put out poor products?

I owned the Revo Premier when they first came out and thought they were great and then pulled my endorsement B) after having a bunch of issues, although I love my 2 Skeet Reese Revo models they are right up there with my Zillion and Core as a favorite of mine. I also own a Curado CU200E5 and love it as my cranking reel. So all in all, I would basically go with what feels and balances best on your rod. Go to the store, mount the reel on the rod, and see how it feels in your hands. With today's modern manufacturing processes and the engineering that goes into these reels its not so much a matter of what's best, but what's best for you, with that said I still hate QUANTUM, EVERY SINGLE QUANTUM REEL I have owned is CRAP, from bad bail mechanisms on Boca PT reels, to cracked reel seats, and bad worm gears on various baitcasters.

The short answer is no, not really. With that said, all manufacturers have a lemon here or there and have stars and losers somewhere in the line up. The Revo clutch dog was a high wear item for a while but that seems better lately. The Shimano AR clutches have a small bit of play in them, but that doesn't really hurt anything. Daiwas clutche engagement seems less than positive at times. You get what you pay for to some degree. Plan on spending $100 +/- for a quality baitcaster and $50 +/- for spinning reels. It's hard to go wrong with name brand equipment in this range especially if you take care of it.

If your thinking of spending the retail price on a curado, I would look on Ebay for a Pflueger Patriarch XT. You can pick them up for around $180 and its a sweet reel. IMO its better than the Curado. The Patriarch XT retails for $249.99.

In the Revo vs. curado scenario (considering that you are comparing the Revo sx vs. the curado) I would pick the curado. I haven't used a stx and the sx is closer in price to the revo.

I like the Curado and STX equally. I think they're both great reels and a good value. Choose the one that feels best on your rod and in your hand. Either way, you can't go wrong.

What revo are we talking about?

That's my question, too. And also, exactly which Curado.

Maybe it's just me, but it's hard to understand how anyone could give advice on this kind of thing without knowing those specifics. There must be 6 different models or more under the Revo line, and then you through in model year changes, etc. Curado has a few less models, but still several.

Never fished a REVO but I love my little green curado :D
