Baby Brush Hog Hooks

Featured Replies

I read a post or two in a thread that indicated that a straight shank hook work weel on getting more hook-ups than an EWG hook. What kind of straight shank hook is this?

Believe it or not, I use a Gammy weedless 2/0 for my baby brush hogs.

The weedless since I throw them everywhere, i.e. trees, shrubs, grass, etc.

2/0 as it fits the baby brush hog nicely.

I have been known to go down to a 1/0 weedless, too.

I add a 1/4 ounce pegged bullet weight to complete the setup.

I also throw 8 to 12 pound flourocarbon as I shy away from braid buy the line is your chioce.

Go out and do some fun flipping and pitching into the bushes!!!! ;)

Is that the one with the wire guard?

I've been using them weightless and having good luck.

How do you rig the straight shank hook in the brush hog?

you just go straight down the plastic and leave to hook exposed, or atleast thats how i would rig them with a straight shank hook. But i always use EWG, never had a problem with hook up percentage.

Texas rig just as with any EWG or offset. Insert the hook just beyond the barb, exit the plastic, turn it around and find out where the point needs to penetrate the plastic again.

Try it with a keel weighted hook!

had a great day yesterday with just that set up.. keel weighted 3/0 EWG. i didn't have any 2/0 with me... but the 3/0 worked fine..

bouncin' it on bottom and then swimming it back..

I use the Mustad Denny Brauer Flippin' Hook in 2/0 or 3/0 for baby brush hogs.
