Tube heads...

I'm looking for something new or something more efficient when it comes to fishing tubes on chunk rock. I need something light because I will only be fishing 3-5 feet of crystal clear water with basketball sized rock. I generally like using internal tube weights but with this stuff I need an exposed hook.

I need the exposed hook because I'm fishing lighter tackle than usual and I don't want to mix with 6 pound line, a tex-posed hook, and 4 pound smallies. I see that as being as heart-breaking combination. Thanks

Venom tube heads IMHO are the best. I use them exclusivly, and they come in bulk packs , 1/16- 1 oz. I think. That "death" grip hook they use is great, fish just do not throw it, and it come through cover great. Second choice would be Bite -Me heads, and third would be BPS XPS tube heads, both are made with Gammakatsu hooks, the Bite -Me's come with a falt 60 degree eye which I prefer (as do the Venoms) while the BPS XPS have a 90 bend hook.

I forgot all about the Venoms. Thanks

I will 2nd the venom 60 degree heads. They come through the rock as well as anything I have tried when using the right weight heads. Great hooks. reasonably priced and all my orders are at my door within 3 days. They also had a 10% off everything sale going on when I ordered last week

I love a local brand of tube hooks, the tackle shop makes thier own! The have ones with rattles,no rattles, and weed gaurds!

Prowler tubes.  S'not or Roadkill are deadly.  Also might want to check out blackhawkcustomoutfitters or honeycreek tackle, they can set you up wiht good heads.  Honeycreek tackle is where Terry McWilliams got his tube heads from when he fished in the Classic a couple years ago, the one Boyd won.

I really like the bps tube hooks.  I primarily use the weedless hooks and they do the job wonderfully.

I'm not trying to hijack this post at all, but when it comes to tube heads, what is the preferred way to rig them with a tube?

Cut a hole in the top of the tube for the eyelet?  Run a length of line into the tube head, the tie and pull the headinto the tube center?

Just stuff the tube jig into the open end of the tube and when you get to the end poke the hook eye through. If this is not clear there are you-tube vids that you can watch.

look here:

or here:

If you fishing somewhere there is gobies..Take a shakey head that has a screw and clip off the screw. Then insert the head into the tube. It makes a great Goby imitator when matched with the right color tube. Other than that I would just put in a Round head. Or The BPS tube heads
