Immediate Catch And Release

Featured Replies

How much more beneficial do you think it is for these larger tournaments ? With two major competitions already signed up for this system do you think the big boys of bass fishing will soon follow?

I can see it down the road. As for smaller local events, it would open the door to cheating. And it's the countless smaller club and weekend events where there it would make the most difference. The numbers of bass caught during an Elite event is drop in the bucket once you put the size of the fishery into perspective.

I can see it coming, but its kinda disappointing. It would change the whole style of tournaments, as well as give Bassmasters a whole new face. I can see the immediate release doing away with the fish limit, so it would become plausible that a guy catching twenty two pound bass out of a couple of schools could beat a guy with a 30lb. five bass bag. To me, that's just not right.

Why do you think they would do away with the 5 fish limit ?

For one, better shows. More fish caught that are allowed to count, the higher the weight. The higher the weight, the more fan interest. The more fan interest, the more money generated. Same thing that the NFL has been doing for years with all the rules on passing and quarterbacks and whatnot.. Also, I'm willing to bet that there are some pros that would push for it. Normally with tournaments there is a five bass limit due to fishery regulations. However, with the immediate release you would not be keeping the fish, therefore allowing the contestants to "weigh in" every fish they catch. And, though I doubt it would happen, it could also do away with length restrictions as a whole. I doubt that they'd do that, but the removal of the limit would not surprise me.

If Major Laegue Bass Fishing does well, they may have to.

Very good point. I had not thought of that.

Although, the impression that I got from talking to Boyd himself was that it was meant to be a TV product, not to compete with the Elite series. Like the UMF TV show.

Are you guys talking about the setup they used at the Texas classic with the judge on each boat and them actually weighing one fish, or an all out catch measure weigh and record then release? That would be interesting.
