Micro Guides

I have a Quantum Smoke micro guide rod and have gone through 3 different guides that have had them same issue, the insert falls out! Yesterday while fishing with Dwight the third guide insert fell out of the guide. Quantum specs Fuji Micro Guides, so they are not some off brand, any suggestions on what micro guide I should replace the defective one with?

I use 50 to 65 lb braid and have it mated to a Smoke Reel. Its a 7' 4" heavy action in extra fast action its to date the best floating frog rod combo I have used as far as ca stability, weight, and action, too bad the inserts fall out.

First off, thanks for the info. You just saved me $150 as I was thinking about buying a medium heavy smoke rod specifically for frog fishing.

Secondly, I wouldn't be replacing a thing. I would return the rod to the store or to Quantum. That's ridiculous.

Good luck.

I wouldn't worry about it, it isn't a rod problem but a guide problem. Quantum will make good on it, they have a pretty good customer service and unless you buy it from the same store and it has the same lot number you shouldn't have a problem, this is rare with Fuji guides.

My guess is that rod was subjected to some extreme in temperature or handling of some sort. This is not common at all for Fuji guides or micros in general. Have the whole rod replaced as suggested.

My micro carbonlite just lost an insert today! I've lost 3 inserts in the past year on diffrent rods after never having that issue in my life. I really don't think I'm gonna buy another pac bay guided rod again.

I havent had any issues with my Smoke rod. It was the only casting rod I used last year so it got used a lot. Havent really read about this issue with other owners neither.

Hi,

Are you using a leader ?

If your line to leader knot is too bulky it will bang the inserts hard during the cast.

I have some rods that the inserts popped out during the cast (not micros).

I guess the small diameter of the micros will increase this problem.

IMHO,

If you are using a leader either use a low profile knot or dont use a leader at all.

(micros to me are not leader friendly).

Nope no leader straight braid.

Nope no leader straight braid.

Might be a bad batch of guides.

Better get the rods with regular guides if the next rod you get still has the problem.
