In a previous thread I mentioned that I almost ripped off my lower unit on a submerged log/stump. After hearing that my insurance would cover the cost I got to looking at my policy and noticed that the motor amount is covered for 8K. Boat is a 96 and so is the motor.

Thinking worst case scenerio what is the cost of a new 150? I have never even looked at pricing of the motor before without the boat attached. Any info on a used or new would be great. Thanks all

MSRP around 12,500. Can be found on the 'net for 10,000+. Unless the discounters are near you you'll either have to pick it up or have it shipped. You always want to consider service as a priority to price, unless it's a big discount. A local seller is more likely, though not always, to give his customers priority when it comes to service. Just something to think about.

One additional cost, in your case, will be controls if you change brands of outboards. The last time I checked new controls where $700- $1000. Even though your outboard is insured for 8 thousand, if the blue book value is only say 4 thousand I don't think your insurance company will pay the greater amount. Right now is the time to contact your insurance company and check your coverage unless it is a new policy. I have my agent review all my policies every year and we see what replacement value they will pay and adjust the policies appropriately. My rig was insured for $35,000 initially and now it is $17,000 as that is all they would pay if the boat motor and trailer were totaled.
