I am just getting into tying jigs/spinnerbaits, and I wanted to ask about bluegill patterns. They seem to vary with each manufacturer, from blues, greens, browns, purples, oranges, and I dont know why, but CHARTRUSE! I dont get it, I have NEVER CAUGHT OR SEEN A CHARTRUSE BLUEGILL!!!!

None the less, what colors do you tie into your skirts to match young bluegill?

If you'll look back a few pages, I believe their is a thread that already has plenty of pics in it of varying patterns. As for the chartreuse, I'll give you credit on not seeing one colored like that, BUT have you ever watched one swim by the boat in sunlight???? The fins are a chartreuse color. That's where it's coming from. Always remember to try and look at what you are copying underwater in natural light. Also, the shallower, the bright the color, deeper will have duller colors.

Skeeterman is correct, the tails and pectoral fins are chartruese in clear water, don't look like it out of the water but they are in clear water with sunlight.

This is my first bluegill pattern tie. I've always liked something with a bit of dark green/ g.p., and few strands of light purple with a bit of orange. A dull yellow substituted for the orange would probably look pretty sweat.

From the looks of that trailer, I'd say it works!
