Hi, I'm Gene Jensen with BassResource.com. This is going to be a continuation of my jig series, and today we're going to talk about the finesse jig.

A finesse jig is a just a lightweight jig. This right here is a ball jig made by Siebert Outdoors. It's got a really long, really long hook or a weed guard.

First thing I'm going to do with that weed guard is I'm going to line it up with the barb of the hook, and I'm going to find out where that is, and then I'm going to take it and trim it off. Not the best scissors in the world to be trimming a weed guard, and that's all I'm going to do is I'm going to trim it off just like that.

Then I'm going to take my skirt, and I'm going to make sure that I have the long end in my hand, the long end of that skirt, and I'm going to thread it onto that jig, get it over the barb, spit on it a little bit, so it gets over the rest of the second collar. And there, it looks like just a regular jig.

You can fish it this. It's a little quarter ounce. It'll drop right down. It'll fish just nice.

But with a finesse jig, the next thing you do, pull your scissors out again, make sure this is all nice and pretty. You want to split your skirt up to where you have all of the strands on the top end of the jig.

This one's all buggered up. I'm going to have to trim it a couple times anyway, but all right. Goodness gracious.

Okay. Now what you do is you split your skirt and you make sure that collar is the only thing showing right there. Then you hold it in your hand, hold the bottom in your hand, and you sit there and you trim all of this off right at the head. Trim it just a little bit more. It gives you a smaller jig, smaller profile, little bit of water resistance so it falls a little bit slower. I'm going to take and I'm going to trim that skirt up just a touch just because of my personal preference.

There you go. You have a finesse jig. Use a smaller trailer. Use a Zoom, not a Zoom, use a Rage Craw, a little Baby Rage Craw on it. It's just a slower fall, lighter action. It's a great little jig. It catches a lot more fish just because it is smaller.
