TRENTON, Mich. (Sept. 17, 2012) – Mark Modrak of China Township, Mich., weighed a two-day total of 10 bass totaling 44 pounds, 12 ounces to win the Bass Fishing League Michigan Division super tournament on the Detroit River in Trenton, Mich., on Sunday. For his victory, Modrak earned $7,604.

“I was fishing an area right where the Detroit River flows into Lake Erie,” said Modrak. “I was fishing current eddies near the mouth of the river in about 14 feet of water. I threw a custom-colored tube with a ¼-ounce head. We call the color ‘Christmas in the Army.’ It’s an olive drab color with green, red and gold flakes. I fished it over the grass and rocks and had pretty good success with it.”

Modrak had a very successful tournament and boated 25 keepers on day one and 15 on day two despite the different weather conditions.

“It was really nice out on Saturday,” Modrak said. “It was pretty calm, and you could run anywhere you wanted to. Day two was a different story, though. It was very rough, and I had to stay tucked up into my river spot. The key for me out there was being able to feel my bites. They were real light, almost like a perch bite. The fish have had a lot of pressure lately, so it feels great to be able to get the win.”
