Glenn: Hey folks, Glenn May here with BassResource.com, and welcome to another edition of Hank Parker's Fishing Tips. This week's question, Hank, it comes from Kyle from Morgantown, West Virginia. And he wants to know how do you decide which spinnerbait combo to use.
Hank: Well that is a good question, and it again depends on the conditions. I was in a tournament several years ago in New York and the water's really, really clear, the wind's blowing, the grass is sparse, it is really, really slow going to fish a tube, or to fish at jerkbait, Man I can tie on a spinnerbait and I could cover a lotta water. That's what I wanna do.
And I had so many fish rolling on that spinnerbait, flashing at it, following it up, and I kept getting...making the blade smaller and smaller and the head on the bait bigger and bigger. That allowed me to fish the bait much, much faster in that clear water. And the faster I fished that bait, the more effective it become, and the more hook ups I got, the less follows I got.
So, you know, conditions will dictate on how to modify your spinnerbait. Just pay attention to what the fish are telling you to do and they just kept telling me, "Hey, I'm getting too good a look at your spinnerbait. If you could fish it faster, I'll bite it." And that's what I did. I just kept modifying that bait till I could fish it fast enough and start getting a lotta hook ups instead of follow-ups. So let the fish dictate how you modify your bait.
