Brookeland, TX (June 7th, 2025) – The 2025 Texas Team Trail Championship on Sam Rayburn was a tournament that the best team tournament anglers throughout the state of Texas have been looking for all year – a day without any rain! The 2025 TXTT Championship kicked off the two-day championship with intense competition on the renowned waters of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Known for delivering thrilling moments and hefty weights, the championship's opening day on the famed reservoir lived up to its reputation.
On the first day of the event, anglers were faced with typical June weather for east Texas which means hot and humid, but a slight breeze in the afternoon made being on the water for the first day of the TXTT championship bearable. Lots of five-fish limits came across the TXTT scales, and reports of great fishing both shallow and deep were made by anglers.
As the scales closed for day one it was the Louisiana team of Cole Moore and Cody Pitt that grabbed the early lead after bringing a five-five Sam Rayburn limit worth 28-09 to the scales in their Rapala ‘Crush City’ bag.
Moore and Pitt are riding a wave of momentum having just won the last regular season event of the year on Lake Belton where they won a Nitro Z-18 boat package as well as finishing in 3rd at Toledo Bend in April. If they can hold onto their day one lead tomorrow, they will walk away with another Nitro Z-18 Boat Package.
“Man, the day was really good to us. It started off really quick for us catching 8-10 fish first thing and boating a few good ones”, said Moore. “We did have a pretty tough practice and did not have a whole lot of areas to go, but we knew it would happen quick today- and it did.”
The team reported catching several keepers and finished out their day in an area they feel could be key tomorrow. They also reported fishing clean was a huge bonus to them having a great bag and taking the lead on Day One.
Roane & Thomas in Second 26-14
Catching a lot of small fish throughout the day and finally landing on a quality spot to land a five-fish limit worth 26-14 was the Texas team of Cameron Roane and Stephen Thomas.
“It didn’t start out all that great,” said Roane. “We finally found the ones we needed late in the day. Hopefully, that holds up for tomorrow where we can go back and repeat some of our success.”
The team reported during their Day-1 interview that the fish they are catching are in a classic Rayburn pattern for the month of June.
Current 2025 Team of the Year leaders Ben Burns and Ian Nash weighed-in 22-08 to finish the day in 8th place. The second-place team in the Team of Year race of Kris Wilson and Thomas Wells are in 18thplace of the tournament with 17-04.
