During the Day 1 morning blast-off of the BAM (Bass Angler Magazine) Lake Shasta Pro-Am, while boats were idling out of the designated 5 mph zone, angler Antonio Gold mistakenly accelerated prior to clearing the no wake area of Bridge Bay Marina. As a result, Mr. Gold’s boat made contact with the rear of Clayton Eslick’s boat, causing damage to Mr. Eslick’s Power-Pole shallow water anchor.

There were no injuries reported. The incident was witnessed by multiple eyewitness competitors, and the account was verified and documented through those statements.

After review, BAM officials determined the incident constituted a safety violation. In accordance with BAM Trail rules and safety standards, the decision was made to disqualify Antonio Gold from the entirety of the event. An exception of Angler of the Year points was made where Antionio Gold will still receive points for the event.

BAM Tournament Director, Michael Bray, stated, “We hold our anglers to a high standard because we value their safety and promote integrity and professionalism. Accidents like this occur, and this incident was an accident and doesn’t affect Antionio’s character, but we cannot take these matters lightly. In case of any emergency, we expect anglers to take action as needed and notify the organization in an immediate manor.”

BAM takes on-the-water safety seriously and appreciates the cooperation of all parties involved as officials worked through the situation promptly and professionally.
