Hey everyone. We are looking to head south to do some fishing but we don't know where. We would like to catch bass and peacocks if possible. Keep in mind we are boatless so we could only fish from shore or by canoe. Any ideas of decent areas considering our restrictions? We don't know anyone down there so community lakes are out for us too. TIA.

There is the canal system that runs along Sawgrass Expressway. Plenty of fish in there. Largemouth, snakeheads, peacock, talapia, myan cichlids, etc.

Oh...I forgot one important thing...we prefer not to be urban fishing. I like to relax when I am fishing and the smell of exhaust and car noise doesn't really gel lol. We may try that out of desperation though thanks!!!

Holeylands at the Broward/Palm Beach line off US27. Haven't seen peacocks there in a few years but you can walk the banks all day long. Lots of big bass can be caught from shore.

Its worth a trip down to the miami airport canals! Its has bass, peacocks, snook, tarpon, etc etc. Live bait works real well down there . Bring the canoe and put in at blue lagoon. Check it out on google map.

Thank you guys! One last question...we have never been down to Holiday Park. Is that somewhere you can fish from shore or canoe?

Theres a limited area of shore fishing at Holiday its not really a park its just a boat ramp.

Along US27 may be your best bet, north of Sawgrass (595), there's plenty of places to reach the canal all the way up to the county line, then as mentioned above the canal that runs west to the Holy lands off 27 and this is accessible and very under fished.

Good suggestion. Yea, that canal that runs west off of US 27 toward the Holeylands/Rotenberger ramp is very accessible and fishy looking.

Actually if you take the road west several miles to the pump station, and put your canoe in the canal that runs north/south (Miami Canal), you would probably kill em' out there. I fished it years ago from shore driving along with my four wheeler and did great. I think they put a dirt ramp in there a while back, but no one ever takes thier bass boats out there, at least no one I know. I'm sure you won't hear any cars out there.

Years ago I used to put my 18ft Pro Craft in that canal I just about could get in and out on the dirt ramp by the farm entrance. I never saw another boat on there and I had several good days in there, I found it best when the water was high in all the other canals, I also used to put in on 27 north of the county line at Browns Farm. Thats another canal accessible by foot just cross one of those bridges and walk along the canal.

I sold the Procraft in 91 jus to give you an idea how long ago that was.

Everyone has been suggesting some very good places. Along the same area you can launch your canoe along alligator alley. This time of year the fishing gets pretty good.

Normally alligator alley would be good bet at this time of year but it has been very tough this year. You can do some shore fishing at the intersection of the Sawgrass Expressway and Altantic Ave. That spot allows you to walk over the levee to fish a short stretch of the Sawgrass recreational area as well as a few hundred yards of the canal system that runs along the highway.

A better bet might be to drive out to US27 and put your canoe in at the ramp of Sawgrass Recreation Park... or rent one of their john boats. Folks are reporting good catch rates of small bass lately. You can't go wrong with a wacky worm along the edge of the pads. Good luck

YEA that canal is a good canal to drop a canoe in relax an hit some nice ones i think that is a good bet for you guys fishinggator its quiet unless a bike passes the sawgrass going100mph othere then that its pretty calm and quiet ... has gators too soo canoe safe if set sail there
