I will be in the area late next week and was thinking about doing some fishing. I wont have a boat or anything so would prefer some smaller lakes that have good bank access. I will be in the Kissimmee area so maybe something around there. I try to fish FL at least once a year when I'm down. I usually do catch some fish but they are small. Best I had so far was a 5 pounder that I caught March 2011 in Palm Coast. Would be nice to get something a little bigger!

Any ideas for places to fish this time of the year?

Guy I knew from orlando said the biggest he caught was a 9 pounder from a retention pond on a plastic worm. He was also telling me 5-7 pounds were not uncommon there is usually a few that size in each pond. Not too familiar with the area, wish I could help more. But at least with that knowledge when in doubt hit the retention ponds up. My most productive here in Jax(so far) is the pond behind the publix.

I will have to look for them. I know of some in the Lakeland area but won't be in that area this time.

I will be staying in the Lake Buena Vista area this time. Any places to fish in this area? I looked on a map and looks to be a bunch of places in the area but I'm not sure if they are private or have bank access etc.

I did fish Turkey Lake last year and caught a few bass so will probably fish that again.

Also what are some good baits to use for this time of the year?

Here in Jax ponds in business parks, apartments, subdivisions etc as long as there are no "No fishing" signs are fair game. worms or other soft plastics, lizards, frogs. Colors I use and most commonly hear and have been told to use are June bug, black, black/blue, red shad, reds, colors that imitate talapia, bluegill etc. the best success I hear from others is on June bug and red shad. I am using culprit 10 inch ribbon tail. And some grande rattlesnakes texas rig or shaky. They are doing ok, still learning the ins and outs of fishing down here and with these type of techniques, but this is what I learned so far.( i didnt really fish when i lived in fla before - caught the bug in va) The best bait tho is the zoom frogs top water. It works well black or black/yellow. With a single 5/0 EWG ur good to go. I am also doing ok on rebel pop r or a buzz bait. All these are catching right now for me Or others I have talked to. Hope this helps good luck.
