Ive been experimenting with refinishing battle wounded topwaters like spooks and poppers. What is a quality sealant to finish the job? Spray poly came off in flakes after just a short exposure to water even after a 30 day cure. And it was oil based. I searched Barlows and Janns but havent found any sealants listed.

Try a local auto parts store and see if there is clear coat in a spray can.

Devcon 2 Ton Epoxy, it dries super clear and is not only tough but water proof and fully cures in 24 hours. If you go with Devcon just make sure you get the 30 minute because enen the 30 minute will get thick and hard to use in a short time and I don't think the 5 minute is as clear after it cures.

I tried an epoxy dip on the first ones I painted. They turned yellow after a month or so. Not sure if it was Devcon brand. Thanks I will pick some up and try it out. Auto Clear Coat sounds like a simpler solution maybe. I'll also give that a try.

Before buying epoxy at the store carefully read the whole package. Most brands like Devcon will state the cure time, whether the cured epoxy changes color (cures to amber or yellow) and whether it will cure water resistant or water PROOF.

I have baits that are coated with Devcon 2 Ton epoxy that are crystal clear and that is why I use it because it was the only epoxy I found that dried clear. I think it also states that one of its uses is as an encapsulant. Yes, I know too well about epoxy turning yellow, I've been making tackle for over 15 years and tried many different products and Devcon is the best I ever used, just make sure it is the 30 minute. BTW, you need to brush Devcon on, it is too thick to dip and when you brush it on don't worry about brush marks, it is pretty much self leveling so all you need to do is use your drying wheel and it will come out perfect.

I use the brush and hang method for my baits. Just brush enough on to make sure the entire bait is covered and then hang. The minor excess ends up on the rear hook hanger and then I just take the dremel wire brush to it and ta da. Done deal.
Show me the water, I will fish.
