Can I use a 5-6 weight for size 1 bass bugs and 4-5 pound bass? Or do in need a 7-8 weight?

Until recently all I used for bass was a 6wt. It should be fine. An 8wt is pretty nice to have for the bigger bushier flies.

You'll be fine even though lots of experts will tell you, you have to have an 8 or 9. I never use more than a 6wt for bass reds or snook. Ive got a buddy who uses a 4wt and catches snook all the time and he manages to throw bigger than a size 1 without much trouble. You might not get big distance but it'll work fine.

5-6 will work, I have no trouble with a 7 weight, but if I had my choice and could set one up again, I'd go with an 8 weight, it does have an advantage in the wind,

Thanks, I can throw a bass bug (size 6-2) pretty well. So thanks again for the tips!
