Hey guys,
new to the forum and i figured I'd see if theres anyone getting on fish around me. Im a student at SIU Carbondale, and I fish little grassy, devils kitchen, cedar lake and crab orchard. The bites been tough with the drought, high temps and clear water and I was wondering if anyone might have suggestions. Been doin alright fishing top water early and late, but Id like to make my trips a little more effective (being a broke college kid )

SIU grad here but live in Central IL now. Used to fish all of those lakes- There is someone on here who lives and fishes down there so hang tight you may here a bit more info. They still stock Devils kitchen with trout?

I fish Cedar and Kinkaid on a fairly regular basis, though not too much since the weather went crazy. Deep and slow is my suggestion if you have to fish during the day. The night bite is not bad at Kinkaid. T-rigged beavers have worked best for me. I have not fished Cedar in well over a month. The last time I was there we caught many small fish in 12-18' of water on trickworms/shakeyheads. Even the private strip pits I fish with a friend at the hunt club near Willisville have been very slow because of heat and low water conditions.

nice_Bass, they still stock DK with trout, good for fighting the winter blues till the water starts warming up Thanks for the info K_Mac, I need to give kinkaid a shot. Been having the same results fishing shakeyheads on grassy that you had on Cedar, lots of little'ns. Grassy has been especially difficult, its normally a clear lake, but the vis lately has been about 10-12 feet!

i have fished a lot of southern illinois lakes. Kinkaid is my favorite. All the lakes you mentioned are decent lakes. Shelbyville is a drive, but its a lake full of white bass if the largemouth arent biting.

There are too many better things to do down here than worry about a little thing like school to be honest, having all the lakes so close was the main reason i ended up here in the first place. GO DAWGS!!!
