sorry if I'm not mall ninja enough to have those cool features on my handguns. You do know a light makes a great target right ? Stop watching so many movies and learn to spell lumen while you're at it

If you break in my house and see a light pointing at you, its too late I already fired multiple rounds into you.

Lights are a great asset when used correctly I have a sure fire for my M4 or what ever the army so chooses to give me as a weapon. I'd mount one on a HD weapon if I owned one but I don't. If your walking around shunning the light then yeah u make a target and give away ur position but say ur in a hall way pitch black intruder coming in or other way around ur kicking in the door and u hit that light you blind everyone on the recieving end and disorintate them and u can either give en 2 in the chest 1 in the head or go non lethal and take it to the groin if close enough.

Lasers are also great if in a hurry u can from the waist activate get laser center mass and pop pop fights over.

I would rather take my chances with a rail mounted light, than to shoot at a target in the dark that I can't confirm or identify as a intruder and not a loved one.

This is very true. But the reality is, most people do not have the proper training to understand how to use weapon mounted lights. Most guys without military or police training, run out and buy guns, then dress them up with gadgets that they do NOT know how to use properly. That right there will get you killed in a hurry.

I have alot of gadgets for my M4 almost none are mounted just my PEQ15 and ACOG the rest I can put on if needed. another thing people don't realize with all this "cool" gear is the added weight on your muzzle end makin it hard or difficult to hold up for any period of time plus it throws your accuracy off but CQC u generally hit what your pointing at anyways.

That's on my issued weapon that WAS set up for Afghanistan not much CQC there. Now were going to Kuwait so idk how I'll have it set up maybe the same maybe a CCO I won't know till I have a warm and fuzzy for what we will be doing.

Home defense wise my wife wanted to use my .17 and I laughed at her and told her to use my 20ga because I don't have a 12. Ill leave the short slug barrel on it and leave her a box of cheap bird shot it will do the job if anything ever happend well I'm gone.

I cant argue with any weapon as a home defense. As long as it fires and saves your life, its good enough. The odds that you will ever have to use it are very low. Kids and animals in the house, proximity to a neighboring house all play vital roles in the weapon you should choose. Like many of you, i am more than prepared. There is a mossberg 500 under my bed with 00 buckshot. A 9mm on the night stand next to my bed. 2 AK 47s in my closet. I leave the door to my room locked. If i hear anything that sounds like someones in my house. I will gather my guns and tell my wife to get under the bed and lay flat on the floor. Im going to dial 911 and tell the person on the phone i have weapons and for the police to identiy themselves. Then i will wait for the police to arrive. I will not fire a single shot or walk out to shoot someone. I will stay behind my locked door with my wife, i refuse to leave her behind while i go play Rambo. But if my door starts getting kicked in by someone other than the police, im unleashing the AK and he will die. Being prepared is just as important as the gun you have. I have no kids or animals or anything that will be in harms way on the other side of the door other than the intruder. Now if i had kids, i wouldnt think of using the AK. Short of putting Claymore mines at your doorways and windows, nothing is guaranteed. If i had kids and such, i would keep a Taurus Judge by my bed and thats it. I have the .410 rounds to put on target, If that doesnt work, I have the .45 rounds.

Lots of great opinions here. One thing you might want to remember though. Chances are it's going to be at night in a dimly lit or dark house. The muzzle blast from any gun under those conditions create immediate debilitating conditions for the shooter. (I really don't care about the intruder.) First, you will be immediately blinded. Second, you will no long have your sense of hearing. Those are the facts.

With that knowledge, you had better select a weapon with which you have extreme confidence in and one with which you practice a lot at the range. Common sense, right? Most folks that have a gun for home defense rarely use it unfortunately. Something to think about.

My selection is a short, double barreled 12 ga. loaded with low base 7 1/2's. If you ever shot this load at a paper target at 10 yards, you'd know why. Quite a devastating machine. You will also be very nervous under these stressful conditions and pointing a shotgun is much more effective than aiming a pistol. I know there are some good pistoleros out there, but most are not. And unless you are visiting the range at least once a week, you are not as good as you think you are.

The shotgun stacks the odds in your favor. And the above load reduces the chances of bullets or large pellets leaving your premises and harming someone outside your home. JMO.

Just because you point a shotgun at something does not mean you will get a hit. At "in the home distances" any shotgun throws a very tight pattern. Use what you shoot the best and what s the most reliable.
