Ok, so the project begins on my boat, but I want to know if they make any kind of books that show you all the wiring/how to work on the boat. For instance, how to remove the gas tank on my boat to install another one?
Manuals, Or Some Kind Of How To, Like A Chilton?

For the motors, yes, but I've never seen such an animal for boats. When it comes to working on you boat, you learn as you go. As questions if in doubt and maybe, if lucky, you will find someone with a similar boat has the experience you are looking for.

What make of boat? Give us something to start with here. Make, model, year...
Usually, the manufacture customer service or parts dept can help with some things. The guy's at Ranger didn't have any references in his computer, so he went out and took some photo's and emailed them to me.
That's Range Service. If you call your boats Mfg you'll need your boat's hull number so they can look it up - they can tell everything they put on your boat - it's like a VIN number. But that's how Ranger does it.
On my Ranger, I have to remove the seats to access the tanks, not a fun task. I thought I had a leak, but everything was fine; plastic tanks can smell.
What's wrong with you tanks, are they leaking, or smell like they're leaking?
Go to Bass Boat Central at http://www.bbcboards.net They have a good selection of topic areas where you can get answers by professionals in their field; i.e. by boat type, by engine type, by type of electronics, and so on; it's my go-to place for boat issues.

Its a 76 Checkmate Bassmate. The metal tank is all rusty, and rather change it than take a chance.

Your correct there. A good inspection, and proper maintenance will save you down the road.
I don't know anything about a 76 Checkmate Bassmate. If she's still serviceable you've got yourself a darn good boat, take care of her.

Its in great shape, the original owner kept it covered in a carport. It just needs some TLC, and a new paint job. Im gonna recarpet it too.
