LOZ in March
Thanks, Cart. That was actually my thinking. I figure jerkbaits and jigs. Have you been down to Coffee County Lake at all? Supposed to be nice on Sunday so we're going to take a crack at it. Pretty much looking for smallies but we'll take some bucketmouths if they're inclined to bite.

LOZ in March
We're fishing LOZ the 3rd weekend in March and I was hoping for some input on the best baits & colors to throw then. Is the primary forage shad? I know wiggle warts do well but what colors are hot that time of year?

Club Rules
My club splits boat expenses between boater and non-boater but tow vehicle expenses are only split if the non-boater rides in the tow vehicle. We don't charge anything beyond the boat because the boater would have had to tow his boat to fish whether he had a non-boater or not. This is the most fair way we've come up with to deal with it. Same as some boaters used to tack on insurance fees etc. to their non-boater. That was also ruled excessive since the boater would have had insurance to pay regardless of having a non-boater. I'd have quit that club over that rule too.

Reel Mechanic Service
Oh well, like I said, I'll gladly pay a little more for his expertise.

Reel Mechanic Service
There used to be a 10% discount for Reel Mechanic's service but I can't find it on the site anymore. :-/ I have sent and will be sending my reels to him again (hopefully this weekend). They come back better than when they were new. I second sending the reels NIB to him, the difference is unbelievable. And because of that, I don't care if I get a 10% discount or not!

Lone Star or Leavenworth Lake KS
Skunked Again, Is the Cedar Lake you were talking about located over near the Great Mall in Olathe? It is in a small park and you can drive all the way along one side of the lake. The opposite side is by Midwest Propeller. If that is the lake you were talking about, are there any smallmouths in it?

Lone Star or Leavenworth Lake KS
That's not what i wanted to hear... Don't guess you want to sure what the trap was used around do you? there was no lipless bait that seemed to work better than the others. if i had to choose one bait and one bait only it would be the Rattlin' Rapala 1/2 oz. color 03. a place a bit closer to you is cedar lake park. war eagle jigs mizzery craw and DT-6 parrot. i know that where ill be saturday.

Members that are great to do business with
I've done business with the Reel Mechanic and most recently bpraz and both worked out great. The Reel Mech is exactly as everyone here described: professional, courteous, and extremely generous with his knowledge and advice. Not to mention doing a great job on my reel. bpraz sold me a TDZLN 100HA reel. He shipped it sooner than we had discussed and it arrived exactly as he described it. On top of that, he's a really nice guy. I highly recommend both of these gents and won't hesitate to personally do business with both of them in the future. (Mods-if this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to move it. Thanks)

New Reel Purchase Advice
I'm going to give it a chance to loosen up before I contact Shimano for service/replacement. I cracked the seal on the box, so I know it's brand new and hasn't been mis-handled, so I don't feel it's the seller's responsibility to make it right. Roadwarrior is right, that reel should be good to go out of the box. If it isn't, I would say the seller/manufacturer definitely has the responsibility to repair/replace. But hey, that's your call. Good luck.

Longview Lake
I just did a quick trip check from Raystown to mid lake Truman. 87 miles. You must be kidding. That would be a joy to be able to reach a quality bass fishery like that in only an hour and a half. A major doable 1 day trip. I consider LOZ a 1 dayer for me and it's 165 miles one way from my house. Be glad you don't live in St Louis. From my house in south KC to Clinton, MO is 69 miles. An hour at best even dragging a boat. I agree, that is close.

Trigger X Lures
That's what I was wondering!!
-
Trigger X Lures
Has anyone tried these lures/soft plastics? They are supposedly loaded with pheromones which force the bass to hit. Also, how do you think these would be considered as tournament lures, knowing that each club is different, etc.?
-
BPS Spring Classic.. What did you get?
I was at the Olathe store on Sunday and got some micro cranks, couple of jerk baits, couple of packs of soft plastics, some tungsten weights and my big purchase was my new Daiwa Zillion BC. Can't wait to try this baby out!

Longview Lake
We've never caught much at Longview. Have had some luck at Jacomo from shore. 2X about Blue Springs. Smithville isn't too far but tough fishing. I know some guys who swear by Grindstone as well. Truman is south but is closer than most think. For me, it is do-able day trip if you head out early and don't mind coming home in the dark. Same thing for Stockton and Pomme, really. In KS there's La Cygne, Hillsdale (closest) and I've heard they catch some whoppers at Coffee County Lake but that's about the same drive time as Truman. Just my 2 cents hope it helps some.

BC vs Spinning?
I started with my first BC last year and learned quick. I picked up a used Shimano Citca from my friend and got his input as I figured it out. First trip-learned to cast. Pretty easy, fluid motion, fit my casting style. Second trip-learned to pitch & flip. It was a little more difficult but by the end of the day I had the basics down pat. Third trip-put it all together and my confidence has continued to grow. I still use my spinning gear for lightweight and finesse but enjoy the power of a BC setup.

Kansas City fishing help (in March)
X4 for James A. Reed. I've caught 5+ pounders there as recent as last fall. It is slow in March but if you are patient and don't mind getting snagged often, you'll get into them. There are some fishing docks in a couple of places on Jacomo but I've never caught any sizable bass there. BTW, grew up in Hamburg, NY so I know your home waters well. Hey Allen, what's up? Hope all is well and I'll see you next month at the meeting.

Question about Abu Garcia Revo baitcasting reels
Thanks for all of the input, gents. I believe I have my answer. Since I intend on using my new reel for topwaters, specifically buzz baits and spinner baits, I'll probably go with the Zillion. Thanks again.

Question about Abu Garcia Revo baitcasting reels
Hi all, I've read the posts comparing the Revo's and the Zillions and it seems like a lot of it is simply personal preference. I think my question is a little different. Rumor is that the Revo has a "sweet spot" or, in other words, if you attempt to cast too hard or too quickly, the reel will backlash. Is there any truth to this? I hope you all can help answer this question and hopefully I've added to the discussion. Thanks in advance.

Hi from Missouri
Hi all, I've been fishing most of my life and have recently returned to the love and excitement of bass fishing. I look forward to learning as much as I can on this great forum. Thanks!
