  1. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Good info here. I have also found no need for mag brakes when a reel has cent. Turn that mag brake dial to zero and adjust the cast control knob accordingly. Now engage 2-3 cent brakes and your done. As you become more proficient you will be able to disengage one brake. I normally have only one brake engaged and two on windy days. Any slight adjustments are made with the cast control knob. They say you should heve engaged an even number of brakes, but I've never noticed any difference with even or uneven numbers.
  2. To compare Micro guides against standard guides, the rods need to be exact. You can't compare two different rod models and lengths, too many variables. You would need two Veritas rods micro & standard same, length, power and action using the same reel, line and lure switched between the two rods in question.
  3. I have one Sellus, a 7'2" worm/jig and like it just fine. I was using it as my frog rod, and had no trouble hauling 4+ pounders out of some really nasty pads. I feel it's a great rod for the money. My only gripe is that I find it a tad on the heavy side, other than that it's a very nice rod. One other thing I have found. I did have to weed out several till I found one with guides that lined up evenly. I have since checked them out at BPS, Dick's and most of them have guides that just do not line up correctly, so you need to check them out very closely.
  4. As far as cost goes, I have no answer other than marketing. I have 3 Falcon Bucoo Micro rods and love them. I notice smooth long casts, very accurate casting and excellent sensitivity. They say the sensitivity is due to the line being closer to the rod blank. The line has zero problems flowing through the guides even with a tied on leader.
  5. Also the G and E series Curado's have a different body style. The Curado G has the body of the Caenan and is a noticeable difference from the E series if placed side by side. I can definitely tell the difference in hand and prefer the feel of the E series. Does this mean the G series is bad, no... I just prefer the E....
  6. The 5 and 7 are the gear ratios. 5.1:1 and 7.1:1
  7. Have you tried the reel, and not like it?
  8. You prefer magnetic brakes to cent? Don't judge cent brake by the H2o you have. There is no better braking system than cent, and they are very easy to set up.
  9. I've had my Leatherman for 15 years, and it works like it did on day one.
  10. Agreed! With cent brakes there is no need for mag brakes.
  11. You must be joking, the Revo S is not even close to the Chronarch.
  12. I do not believe the Lexa has centrifugal brakes, and that's enough to make me look elsewhere. There is no better braking system that centrifugal brakes in my book. Other than that, the reel looks OK.
  13. The Eon is a round reel, but obviously you know this. It's a decent reel, and I believe it sold for around $100.00 I'd mount it on a rod and give it a good workout.
  14. I would start out with spinning gear as to make it an enjoyable experience. Go to Dick's and pick up a shimano Sellus Worm/Jig rod and put a Shimano Sedona 2500 reel on it. Spool it with 8# test Trilene and you will have a fantastic set-up that will do everything well. This set-up will run you around $125 total. Also look at the Tec-Spec rods that are sold at Dick's as they are a great rod as well. In this model I would go with the 6'8" M Extra Fast which will be a great all around rod as well. Note: The Shimano Sellus Worm/Jig rod is available in a 6'8" M Extra Fast or a 7'2" MH Fast action. I would suggest the 6'8" model for your first rod as it will be a good all around rod. Also, the Tec Spec is made by Shimano for Field and Stream which is a Dick's exclusive.
  15. You two are hard core LOL....
  16. I personally feel if your using braid a medium power rod with a moderate, moderate fast or fast is plenty. I fish 2 moderate action rods, one 6'6" and the other 7'... I fish lipless cranks, 3/8 oz spinner baits along with light jigs, and weightless worms. I have zero problems driving the hook home when using any of these baits. If I use mono which I hardly ever do, it's not as easy to plant the hook when fishing weightless worms. I do use a mono leader with my braid on all techniques. I really like how a moderate action handles when fighting a fish. Go have a look at the Falcon Bucoo Micro in either 6'6" or 7' M I think it will be the perfect rod for your needs.
  17. I like Shimano, so I'd be looking for a used Citica E. If you want new, I'd pick up a BPS Pro Qualifier.
  18. It depend on how heavy the spinner baits your throwing are. I find a medium good to 1/2 oz but step up to a MH for heavier ones. No one rod does it all, as you are finding out LOL..... Sure, you can get 2 rods to do just about everything pretty well, but what fun would that be?
  19. That usually is but true, but not always. Like anything else, there are too many variables. I'll also add that I feel this to be true when staying within the same brand. If you compare a Citica to a Curado the Curado costs more, and is better. Now comparing Shimano to another brand, this no longer applies.
  20. I hate the reel seat on the Veritas as it is not comfortable. It also allows the reel to move side to side, no matter how much you tighten it down. The 7'M Bucoo works very well with spinner baits. The Veritas you have makes for a good weightless worm rod or Wacky rig.
  21. Don't compare spinning and bait cast reels.
  22. Higher cost does not ensure better quality. What makes you feel the E series is not as good as the older series?
