  1. I didn't even think about ramps! I'm sure they're submerged in there, I just have to find them. Thanks!
  2. Hey guys. My honey hole is a 25 acre stone quarry (25-65' deep). The only real structure is 90 degree ledges that drop from 3' straight straight to the bottom. The water is gin clear, most days I can make out the bottom in the 25' areas. I've had good luck catching lots of 1.5lb largemouth on Keitech Swing Impact Fats (4.8"), but I'm wanting to target the bigger fish. I have a Huddleston Deluxe 68 Special & Mattlures Ultimate Bluegill/Ultimate Shad swimbaits. The only real cover are a few completely submerged trees that only have the trunk and main branches left. I haven't scanned with my electronics yet so there could easily be more structure/cover, but being a stone quarry I am doubtful. My question is, how do I use these big swimbaits? I have the right rod/reel/line but I really have no idea how to fish these lures. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  3. Hey guys. I'm going to try my hand at some deeper ledge cranking this summer & am looking for a rod to handle some larger cranks. I'm planning on ordering a few 6th Sense Crush 300DD (1oz) crankbaits. Right now I'm looking at 3 rods & am not sure which would be better. St. Croix Mojo Big Crankster (7'8 MH/M) Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 (7'11 H/M) Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 (7'11 XH/M) I'll probably pair it with an Abu Garcia Revo Winch & 12lb Fluoro. Thanks!
  4. Thanks guys, we passed right by chinook & thought it looked decent
  5. Thanks, those both have decent bank fishing?
  6. We're leaving from the muncie area, heading down through Terre Haute & Evansville.
  7. Headed down to KY Lake with my dad today to fish with a guide tomorrow. We don't have a boat or our kayaks with us, so does anyone know any good bank fishing lakes/rivers/state parks between here & there?
  8. Really? No one wants to share their killer spots? Lol
  9. Hey guys. My father & I are headed down from Central Indiana to Kentucky Lake on Sunday & Monday. We don't have a boat and aren't familiar with the water so we decided to book a guide. Sunday we will be there around 2:00pm, so we were thinking of trying to get in some bank fishing to kill some time. Do you guys have any public spots you'd mind sharing? We aren't local, so we won't over-fish or tell everybody your secret spots If you don't want to post your spot here send me a message. Thanks guys
  10. Thanks, I'm guessing I wasn't tying my knot right. Plus I haven't been wetting my line.
  11. I couldn't find a thread that answered my question so I figured I'd start one. On my finesse rod I'm throwing 20lb braid with an 8lb fluoro leader. I used to use straight mono because that's what it came with (cheap-o spinning combo). Now that I've switched to braid with a light fluoro leader my lures keep breaking off on the cast....What knot should I be using? I use this rod for Texas rigs/Ned rigs/Wacky rigs/Shaky Head.
  12. Thanks guys, appreciate it : )
  13. I don't get to fish rivers very often, or for smallmouth. What are some good lures?
  14. Awesome! Thanks guys
  15. Anyone ever fished Sugar Creek river for smallits? Ive heard from Crawfordsville to Turkey Run States Park is one of the best stretches of river in the state for them. Was wondering what the best time of year would be for that or of anyone has tried.
  16. Went to a stone quarry owned by a family friend today. Crystal clear water, 15' visibility. Fished around 6:00pm & caught 2 around 1.5lbs. 1 on a Basstrix paddle tail rigged on a 1/4oz swimbait hook & the other on a small Berkley Swim Shad (I think?). It was windy when we caught them. 20 minutes later the wind died so we had glass calm/ultra clear water & we couldn't get a bite. First fish I've ever caught on a swimbait of any kind, definitely boosted my confidence in them
  17. Okay. I also have a 6'9 MH/F that I could use for the smaller paddle tails. Probably not ideal being only 6'9, but it can probably get the job done.
  18. Hey guys. I have an Okuma Guide Select (7' 11" H/MF) paired with a Shimano Curado 300E (6.2:1) & 25lb P-Line CXX. I bought this setup to primarily use with Huddleston & Mattlures swimbaits, but would this be a good rod for large cranks like 10XDs and Crush 500DDs? I also have a 7' MH/M that I got as a general purpose cranking rod, but I think these are a little big for that since its only rated to 1oz. My next question is, the Okuma is designated as a "swimbait" rod, but should I be throwing paddletails (basstrix/keitech) on this or something a little lighter? Thanks for the help...I know I come here with lots of rod questions lol
  19. Thanks, I'll swap out my line. 6.3:1 casting
  20. I just realized....I'm using 17# fluoro. Will dropping from 17# to 12# fluoro really drive the lure that much deeper?
  21. Thanks for all the repliesame! I'll give these a look
  22. Today I was fishing a KVD 1.5 Squarebill crankbait. I caught a few fish, but does anyone ever feel like the lure just doesn't run deep enough to target laydown trees? A lot of the spots in this particular lake are steep banks with trees that have fallen into the water. I like to run squarebills parallel against the trees, but I can never get this bait to go more than maybe 2.5' deep (admittedly, I use 15# fluoro so I could go to 12#). Does anyone know of any good squarebills that run in the 5-7' deep range?
  23. Digging up an old post, but....Do you guys use trailers and/or trailer hooks? If so, what trailers do you use in the pre-spawn?
  24. I ended up going with a St. Croix Premiere Cranking (7' MH/M) paired with a Shimano Curado 200i (6.3:1). Took it out for the first time (& my first time out this season) and caught a few by ripping a Gold/Black Red Eye Shad through the weeds (never caught any on a lipless before). Thanks for all the suggestions! Definitely happy with what I ended up with
  25. Thanks, I'll hit Whitewater Saturday then. If its good I may even go back Sunday lol
