  1. You using tungsteon? Sucks losing them, but it's all part of the game.
  2. Well I was pretty much feeling defeated. Not to mention is was hot as hell. I usually drop shot with a fluoro leader so I got lazy and didn't want to do my regular line to line knot, tie on my hook, and clip weight. I already had a pre-made leader with an offset worm hook. Just clipped my weight, quickly tied a swivel and clipped my leader. It was fugazi, but it worked that day. Been awhile since I used a swivel.
  3. I ageee with Bob. The modified Albright is pretty skinny and easier to tie. I find it really strong to be honest. Never came undone or broke. The fluoro leader breaks first and I always retrieve the some fluoro still attached to the knot.
  4. Few days ago I was getting owned fishing. Not even a single bite. I was dropping all the cranks I had and bouncing them off rocks etc. I almost gave up, but gave it one more shot with a carolina rig. I didn't have any slip weights so I just used a drop shot weight haha. I reversed the bad day to a good day. Almost a fish every cast. I decided to go get some some Tungsten weights to have an even better set up; however, I literally lost them all haha. I got them snagged on rocks like crazy. I still can't believe my braid broke so easily. There must of been a razor sharp rock edge. They felt great and I can see why people love them. After getting owned though, my eyes opened and realized the price point is pretty high and they might be a jinx. I'm still on the fence about them.
  5. Served 7 years USAF. Now medical school. Might go back in after school. Get dem captain bars out the gate.
  6. I like the modified albright. It's an easy knot to tie and not that bulky if you take time.
  7. I like braid+fluoro leader. Power Pro 40lb with 10lb Invisx. I think straight fluoro is excessive. You can do half mono (reel backing) and half fluoro. So you can use the fluoro for other reels or leader use.
  8. Yea I ended up putting on 6lb mono, but I tied on some 4lb fluoro as a leader. I bet CO produces some big trout. Im pretty much stuck with stocked trout in my region. Theres wild trout in the mountains, but I plan to fly fish for them.
  9. Oh true. I don't eat bass, but I'll take home all the legal trout I get. So I'll just Leave the rod in my trout gear. Thanks for the info
  10. So you suggest going with a heavy # braid than under 10# braid? The smaller diameter braid around 2# mono too small? Yea the fireline looks appealing. I've read a lot of good things. Btw, the UL rod should handle a bass right? Just need to let it run a little more
  11. First off, I want to thank everyone for some helpful information on bass fishing. I've been having fun all summer in Virginia. I'm looking forward to the upcoming trout season and the wild trout in the mountains; however, I will fly fish in the mountains. I just have a few questions on fishing for stocked trout. I just ordered a new spinning combo. I was limited to only Okuma. (never had any products, but look reliable) I purchased a 7' SST Rod Ultralight with a Ceymar C-30 Spinning Reel. Now that i'm a little more hardcore to fishing and i'm starting to learn more about all the miscellaneous gear/tackle available to increase success. For instance, fishing line. Since I am going ultra light on my trout set up, what do you think would be the best line to spool up my reel? My head is hurting because there so many options. My first instinct would be braid main line and fluoro leader. Would 8# braid with 4#leader fluoro be overkill? I read a few articles of braid not functioning correctly on a spinning reels. I then read some post about Fireline. I just started using cheap braid/ fluoro leaders for bass with a BC reel and seem to get a lot more hook ups so I know theres a method to this madness. Just trying to figure out if braid will bring me more fish or misery on a spinning reel. Or if its not kosher with an ultralight set up and go straight low# mono. thanks
  12. Yea I made sure everything had a lot of tension I think that was my issue. My timing was off. I used a frog yesterday and focused on the timing. Had zero issues with loose line. Crushed some bass and now the frog is my new favorite lure. haha Thanks Ya'll
  13. Hello Y'all, I just recently got my first bait caster reel and so far surviving and enjoying it. I get a few minor backlashes here and there. My issue is reeling in my bait with some action. The line goes back on my reel loose. The loose line makes it harder for me to get any sort of distance on my long cast. Do I need to add pressure with my fingers? I haven't tried to do that yet. I thought it would add some unnatural vibration. I spooled my reel with braid. I passed the line through the holes, tied a simple overhand knot, and applied a small piece of electrical tape to secure it even more. Just curious on how people keep the line tight reeling in light lures and weightless plastics. Thanks
  14. Booya! Went cycling on the Virginia capital trail. Knew I would be back around 7:50pm so I brought my rod for a few quick cast (in bike gear) at shiplock haha. Reeled in a 1.5lb in 5 min. My finance thinks I'm crazy now. Slump over.
  15. Thanks David. I'm definitely going to fish a lot of these areas. Right now I'm fishing all the bodies of water in a 5 mile radius. I reside in short pump so theres a lot of random ponds/lakes. So far, I had some good luck. Now I'm in a slump, but it might be to this crazy heat wave. Can't seem to track them now. Been using drop shot fluke, drop shot wacky worm, regular wacky rig. I do get bites, but I think it's either baby bass or sun fish. It feels like a tick tick.
  16. Thanks Sam! I live right next door to the Cabela's, so I'll grab a booklet asap. I know what you mean about the Cabela's guys. I used to be an interrogator and I have a habit of researching my questions to see if the information corroborates. The Cabela's guys failed haha. Depending on how much time I have, I might join the VCU Bass team. Looks like it will give me an opportunity to get on a boat. Right now, my go to spot is Innsbrook (Rooty lake). Super close to me and they have a decent amount of fish. I'm prepping to go out in a minute and try some drop shots by the fountain. See if any bass are trying to cool off by that cover. Cycling down the Virginia Capital Trail I noticed some good cover in the river. Not sure if you've tried that area. Again, Thanks for the tips. I actually never saw anyone fish Audubon. Used to live across the street from it. I did see a dead body in it though. Also, If you know a good spot in Richmond for crawfish. Let me know.
  17. Hey Y'all, I just recently moved to Richmond, VA from New Orleans, LA, but originally from Southern California. Unfortunately, I never fished in New Orleans. I was busy eating all the great food in the Big Easy. I am brand new to bass fishing, but grew up doing a lot of trout fishing in a lake (not lures or fly), surf fishing, and pier. Checking out a Cabela's, I saw a great deal for a Lew's casting combo. I had very little experience with a salt water bait caster, but I always knew most bass anglers use a bait caster and decided to take on the challenge. So far, I'm not doing bad. Only one FUBAR backlash that needed to be cut out, after I exhausted all the techniques to repair. However, reading these forums, I over spooled my reel anyways - so the backlash helped me. Being brand new to Virginia, I'm still trying to find some good fishing holes. I'll appreciate any advice or locations to catch some bass. I don't have a boat so everything needs to be bank fishing. I really enjoy it, even though it's hot as hell out right now. The complexity of understanding your equipment and surroundings are exciting and pretty challenging. Right now, I am only using senkos in a wacky rig (no weight added). I am not sure if this is right, but I have 30lb braid on my reel and tie on a 10lb fluoro or mono leader. Also, I have had at least 5 fish slip a hook. I don't understand what I am doing wrong setting the d**n hook. If anyone can help me figure that out that would be nice. So far I can catch 2-3 fish in about hour. My biggest bass is 2lbs haha. I lost what looked like a 3-4 pounder on the bank. I got excited and tried to drag the fish on land getting it caught on a stick which snapped my leader. Looking forward to learn from everyone and improve my skills.
