  1. Ok thanks. We were doing good in the spring but it died when the water warmed up. When do they pick back up again shallow?
  2. Lol yeah good point. Conneaut harbor off the road at the entrance to the lagoon.
  3. Anyone from Ohio been doing any good bank fishing smallies on Lake Erie? Just wondering what a good fall bait is for them to bank fish for them off the rocks.

Question on rigging senkos vs rigging craw such as the rage tail. Why do you only Texas rig senkos with just a hook but when using a rage tail craw people peg a bullet weight to them. Obviously it has to do with working it on the bottom but isn’t that what you want with both of them?
  5. I am pretty much new to fishing this season also and personally I have never once caught a fish with a jig. I don’t understand. Even when they are hitting other things I still can’t win with them. What’s the advantage of using one with a craw, why not just use a craw instead of adding a big unnatural bushy thing to the top of it lol. They obviously work but I sure can’t use them for some reason.
  6. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on the Shimano exage? A kid at fish USA was telling me he loves the slx paired with the exage. Not to beat a dead horse just cool to hear people’s thoughts before spending money.
  7. Anyone else stumble upon the new 6th sense mf’er rods that were just released? It’s another $119 rod.
  8. I think I just answered my question. Last digit is the power. So 733 is med/heavy, and 734 is heavy. Would 734 be too heavy to be sensitive enough with light baits? I also use a lot of spoons and whopper ploppers in the spring for smallies.
  9. Lionheart, the 734 is a heavy correct? How do I know if I want heavy or medium heavy? I don’t know much about the technical stuff.
  10. What fury rod is the best “all applications” rod as in top water, crankbaits, square bill, and senkos. Looking for just a good all around rod and I’m just a weekend warrior.
  11. I’ve been debating about a Baitcasting setup and decided on the tatula ct for the reel. Now for a rod. Trying to decide between the tatula xt, st Croix bass x, and dobyns colt, or possibly fury. Is the fury worth the extra $ over the colt is my next question?
  12. Ok thanks guys. The slx combo definitely has the best look to it imo. The mb feels like quality in hand. I’m weird about colors clashing so hard to find a good rod to match the tatula. Just my ocd lol. The $140 in the slx sounds like a sweet deal too.
  13. How does the slx stack up with the Tatula CT and lews tournament mb?
  14. Decided on the Daiwa Tatula CT reel. Need to pair it with the best rod between $50-100.
  15. Leaning towards the Lews tournament mb. What would be a good rod no more than $100 to pair this with for an all around rod?
  16. Thanks for the feedback guys. I need to stop reading and watching YouTube because I’m going to clearly spend more money. What are your thoughts and opinions comparing the Daiwa Tatula ct and the Lews tournament mb reels?
  17. Looking to get my first Baitcasting setup. Been looking into an abu Garcia pro max reel and I am trying to find a good rod to pair with it. I pretty much use whatever is working in Ohio for bass. Typically I use more crankbaits and topwater then I do soft baits but looking for a good all around. I’ve seen good reviews on Abu Garcia Veritas, KastKing perigee ii, dobyns fury, st Croix bass x and a couple others but I have no idea which one because it seems there is always someone saying that certain ones snap. Just looking for some advice to a novice. Also if the pro max isn’t a good choice im open for suggestions.
  18. Thanks guys.
  19. Probably silly question, but when using a finesse worm for bass, do you just go weightless? Are they meant to be somewhat on surface and slowly let sink and the reel slowly? Trying to determine if you use a little weight or none at all with say a 3 or 4” worm.
  20. So medium is mostly for bass with any bate type and won’t be good for for crappie then and medium light won’t be good for bass unless it’s with something like a rubber worm or jig basically?
  21. What exactly do you mean by what lures you won’t be able to fish? So would you go ml to be beat all around then?
  22. Thank you, I appreciate it. I should have specified a combo with a spinning reel. Thanks again. Also what do you recommend something like a 2,500 or 3,000 reel? I don’t know much yet.
  23. Hello, I am new to the forum and just getting into fishing. I fished some when I was a kid but I need a new setup. I’m in NE Ohio and will mostly fish in creeks, small lakes and ponds, and Lake Erie. Mostly will probably fish for bass and crappie. I want a solid rod/reel combo for under $100. I have no idea why a good length and strength rod and what size reel to get for this type of fishing. Any suggestions are appreciated.
