So to confirm, pinion and bearing are out of the reel but fused together?

If yes, then a 50/50 of acetone and trans fluid is the best penetrant I've found.

That thread looks like it screws into plastic. Screw to hold the thumb bar in place #63? Take spool out and look down in there ...
  3. garroyo130's post in Crankbaits…where to start? was marked as the answer
    Read this

For starters, I would probably purchase a Lucky Craft LC 1.5 silent and KVD 1.5 in natural colors. I would fish those for some time just to get a feel for crankbaits.

Another option is red eye shad or variant. With those, you can just cast them out and retrieve to start and you will get bit.

Once comfortable, I would probably add a small hard jerkbait like a Lucky craft pointer or kvd jerkbait.

I would add deep divers only if you have an area you have fished enough to become familiar with. If you feel you are well aware of the depth of the area and any cover/structure there, then add a crank that runs slightly deeper than that depth. I really like throwing the Academy CRD + (which i cant seem to find any more)  for 13' range

I fish primarily from bank and part of what influences these recommendations is my experience fishing and losing lures.

*Edit - I would use a Med/Mod rod to start.
  4. garroyo130's post in What would you do about this was marked as the answer
Call Daiwa USA and order the thumb bar. You're going to open the reel, might as well do it right.

    1. Do you clean the drag washers? If so, how? I clean them with 99% alcohol then press them into a lint free cloth. Don't do this for felt as it makes them swell.
    2. For shielded AR bearings, how would you clean/regrease? Ive never taken these apart or seen the need to. On the older caged style, I would fully disasemble and give it wipe down with a q tip with a single drop of oil on it.
    3. I have cals universal star/reel grease, will this work for the main gear as well? Yes
    4. How would you clean the side plate of a Lews Tournament Pro? Centrifugal brakes not mag brakes. They finally shipped my spool, and I don't want to throw it into a dirty pepper grinder reel. Any smaller pieces like that, that I don't want to disassemble, I blow off with compressed air and then wipe down with a q tip or a small detail brush.
  5. garroyo130's post in 2-4 piece Major Craft rods; ferrule fit/finish was marked as the answer
Thats the fit on them. At least in the 2 ultralight Major Crafts I own, they are like that. Never a problem with them.
  6. garroyo130's post in Shimano Suggested Line # Test > Inches was marked as the answer
    6# mono = .009"

Just go off their stated capacity for 6# mono
  7. garroyo130's post in Disillusioned by new Shimano Vanford 500 vs Lew's Wally Marshall Signature Series 50 was marked as the answer
At that size of reel you're missing out of much of the advantages other reels gain from it.  Example, felt drag is arguably better at very light settings than carbon fiber drag. Threaded handle vs hex-through (or whatever its called) handle doesn't matter at the light drag settings this will be used at. Spool size is also likely too small to be significantly affected by differences in design and weight savings will be minimal to none since the reel weighs nothing.

Longevity is likely all you'll really gain here.
  8. garroyo130's post in Reel Maintenance was marked as the answer
Your reels likely won't be exactly like this, but it always helps me to see the process end to end before trying it. This video was extremely helpful when I first started doing my own maintenance.

    Hope this helps.
