  1. You might be able to, but I imagine it would drain your battery pretty quickly. Also, I doubt that it would give you the equivalent of 60 lbs. of thrust.
  2. I just got a 9'6" Bass Hunter and would appreciate some input as to how to set it up. I'll be fishing with a buddy half the time and by myself the other half. I bought a Humminbird depth finder with a transom mount transducer. I can mount the trolling motor on the front or the transom. Is it more efficient on the transom, pushing rather than pulling? Also, where would be the best place to mount the transducer? On the front if the motor's in the back, to avoid turbulence? Any advice would be welcomed, thanks.
  3. Try Walmart, they have replacement props for some Minkota models.
  4. When I lived in Maryland, I loved to throw poppers when the smallmouths were hitting topwater. Now that I'm in Georgia, I'd like to flyfish for largemouths. I know I'll probably have to go heavier with leaders and baits, any suggestions for what to use, when and where in middle Georgia? I expect catching a 5 lb. LM on a flyrod would be rather exciting! Thanks for any suggestions.
  5. That kind of stuff is just crazy. A few years ago, a friend of mine and I put our boat in at about 2:00 AM for some night time catfishing. There was a guy at the ramp with his wife and young son just coming in and the woman was almost hysterical. To get to the main river (Potomac), you had to go under an aqueduct and the guy said there were a couple drunks on the aqueduct throwing stuff at them as they went under it. We pulled out and went under the aqueduct and they threw what must have been a hell of a big log, just missing the boat. If it had hit one of us, it could have done some serious damage. If I'd had a gun with me I would have been tempted to use it, I should have shot my emergency flares at them! It's too bad I didn't have a cell phone at the time, 911 would have gotten a call.
  6. I've been averaging 3 or 4 times a week for the last month or so. I usually go out a few evenings after work for a couple hours, there are several ponds I can fish within 15 minutes of the house. I try to spend most of the day on the water when I go on weekends. Occasionally I'll make an all night catfishing trip.
  7. "How many bass do you think I can put in each 5 gallon bucket safely?" I'm no expert and maybe somebody can answer better than I, but I would guess no more than four or five in the ten inch range. That might even be too many. You can get a five gallon "Cool Bubbles" portable livewell with a lid, not too much water should slosh around in your car. They're kind of pricey ($52.99 at Bass Pro Shops), but if you're going to make multiple trips, it might be the ticket. You might be able to find one cheaper on Ebay or at a flea market.
  8. I was fishing the tidal Potomac River a few years back and had a four pound largemouth in the livewell, waiting to show to a buddy before I released it. While I was waiting at the marina, a guy fishing a tournament pulled into the dock and asked if I'd had any luck. I showed him my fish and he offered to buy it from me! I couldn't believe that a tournament fisherman would stoop so low to try to win. Have any of you experienced a similar situation while out on the water? If I'd been able to find the tournament director I would have reported this guy in a heartbeat!
  9. You can always try soft plastics. Where are you located? A 6" Zoom lizard in watermelon seed rigged Texas style works wonders for me.
  10. jaskoh - How far is your girlfriend's lake from your subdivision lake? If it's not that far, take a couple five gallon buckets with you, keep your fish in aerated water and dump them in your lake when you get home. You can get a portable aerator pretty cheap, use one to keep the water oxygenated, this will help to keep the fish alive.
  11. Anybody else out there get stuck fishing just one kind of bait? My fishing buddy and I have been fishing some local ponds and small lakes and we both love throwing plastics, usually to the exclusion of any other baits. We had a good day Sunday, we caught 21 largemouth between the two of us, all on plastics. All of the fish were small, I wonder if we might have caught some larger fish if we'd switched tactics and baits. Almost all of the fish were caught close to shore around docks and brush, a couple were caught on a submerged roadbed. We both know that we should try throwing crankbaits in deeper water around dropoffs and points, but we love using plastics so much that it's hard to make ourselves switch. Any of you stubborn like us?
  12. I like fishing both alone and with a buddy. If I'm fishing a lake I'm not familiar with I definitely prefer to have someone with me. If I'm just fishing a small pond with my cartopper, fishing alone is fine. I'll always have first choice of spots to cast to and can concentrate on the fishing. Still, it's always nice to have someone to chat with, especially if the fish aren't hitting!
  13. I've been bass fishing since the mid '70's. I joined B.A.S.S. back then and for the last 30 years, catch and release all bass has been pounded into my head. Until the 1st of this year, I lived in Maryland and threw ALL bass back. Since I've moved to Georgia, I've hooked up (no pun intended) with a fishing buddy who keeps a good number of the bass he catches. I've really got mixed feelings about this. I know he eats them and doesn't waste the fish, but do any of y'all also keep bass to eat? I know bass are more plentiful down here and grow larger than in Maryland, but is catch and release still the general rule? If I want to catch fish to eat, I'll go catfishing, I personally prefer to release bass. Thanks for your responses.
