Whats Happend To The Bass In La?

Featured Replies

I tell you people I have never seen bass fishing so bad like it's been this year. I went today and only caught two bass all day. I used everything I had to offer them but there just not interested in it. Not to long ago I remember being able to out and catch a mess of bass easy but something has changed and I really dont think bass fishing is like it used to be. I dont have no answers for it it's just the conclusion I have come to. The weather has been ok but the blue skies. I just got home from the lake and I'm a little wound up over this. I will gladly to anybodys openion about this wierd season so far. Tell me if this kinda thing has ever happened to you or if you think you might have something to help me with the reason the bass are not feeding like they normally do cause I'm stuck.

Where are you primarily fishing? I'm pretty familiar with the area, and can maybe give better advice if I know where you are going. I can tell you this, particularly about this year: the weather has spread out the spawning pattern over a longer period, meaning fish aren't all doing the same thing at the same time. That makes a pattern harder to discern. The summer pattern on my home lake (Claiborne) was all set to get started on the last spawn cycle, then we got some cool weather that messed up the shad spawn and postponed their migration to deeper water. The lake was also down over the winter, and rose 7 feet during the bass spawning cycle. For me, that meant more scattered fish in a lake where fish tend to scatter anyway. You can catch fish, but you sometimes have to work harder to get them.

WookieeJedi, Thanks for your information. I have been fishing Flag Lake on base alot recently because normally it's one of my most productive lakes. It's bad when all you catch is couple after fishing hard all day. I live close to Lake Bistineau and it was the best lake in this area but they kept drawing it down because of the salvania took over and I live three miles from the Red the same marina the hold the Bass Masters I'll fish there this summer when it gets really hot because of the current and oxygen right now the lakes should be paying off. Like you said the bass are scattered around thats a good point. I think I'm going to try my luck at Lake Bistineau again I have'nt been out there in three weeks. I fish more off the yellow boat road back in the back but there are alot good looking places to fish on that lake I'll be glad when it gets right again like it use to be. I just have understand what this crazy weather has done but at least it seems to be getting better I dont want a repeat of last summer that was really hard on the fish and us to. Well I hope hope everything is going well for you in Claiiborne Parish Thanks for your help.

I like Bistineau, even if you don't kill 'em in there, it is nice to fish up in the cypress trees and enjoy a good day outside. You might try Cypress Lake up north of Bossier. There's a few good spots in that lake, almost all of it offshore structure. I haven't been there for a while, but my PB came out of that lake. Might be worth a shot. Also, there's an oxbow lake over in S'port off E. Kings that used to be pretty good. I used to whack 'em pretty good in there, but rarely saw another bass fisherman. No monsters, but beaucoup fish.

Yeah I've been fishing Bistineau for many years I love the lake and have pulled some very nice bass out of there. But for the past 3 or so years they have drawn the lake down so much to where it's gonna need a couple of years to get back even close to what it used to be. Last summer the lake was really unfishable. Now cypress Lake is looking good I just have'nt given it a chance in the past few months but again I have caught my fair share out there. They have really been catching alot of crappie out of lately. I'll try it out here in the next 2-3 weeks and let you know how I do. WookieeJedi.
