Sure This Has Been Done..but Need A Spinning Reel And Are Carbonlite Reels Good

Featured Replies

so i didnt need it but gift cards and bps points landed me a MH veritas spinning rod. now i have a MH vendetta spinning for T rigs and all around stuff, but i want a nicer setup. I plan to use this mainly for flukes/grass hogs and T rigging Tubes. 3 reels came to mind, PQ spinning since the casting is great, a pfleuger president and the Orra S, i like the ora alot, but heard bad reviews on it..

second question for a C-rigging and heavier T rigging and some jig draggin, I have a carrot stick 7'3, beileve it is a MH action, would a carbonlite(orange to match the rod) in a 6 gear ratio be good, I heard they are great reels and super lite, to match colors and it is super lite.

ps.. was looking in the bps catalouge and didnt see the carbonlites in it, do they still make em.

The pflueger pres. is a great reel. I believe it is like 10 bucks or so cheaper than the orra. I have 2 presidents in 30 and 35 size, and a pflueger president xt in 35 size.... All 3 even after use feel smoother and more solid than the 2 orras I handled new in store. I, however, have never handled a pro qualifier.

thanks yall, also i was at bps at the beach and they hade alot of the orange ones for sale, for like 80, i believe and the JM carbons were 120..

I picked up a new PQ spinning reel a few weeks ago, but have only used it a couple times. Mine is pretty smooth and seems to have no problem handling 10# flouro, but some people feel it's a bit on the heavy side at 10.4 oz.

I was also pondering the Orra S and President before I bought the PQ, but the combination of the PQ's sale price ($50) and a $10 off coupon made the deal too good to pass up.

i've got the new carbonlite spinner and like it. there has been some bad reports here, but mine is fine. i'm using 8# vicious elite fluorocarbon on it and don't have anymore problems than i did with my older daiwa spinners, but i don't really notice the big spool helping that much either.

hey thanks, all in all I am bending toward the president. It is a local pick up since my Dicks has one, i am just putting plain old mono 8 lb on this, after trying and wasteing a good 50 buck i am not a fan of lite fluro on spinning, i finally found a descent brand, but that is a whole differante grunt/

The President is a safe bet, and if my PQ starts giving me problems I'll most likely exchange it for one.

Another reel that might be worth looking at is the Falcon Volt. I had an opportunity to handle one when I picked up my PQ and it was surprisingly smooth, solid-feeling, and had very good fit/finish. They're a bit more expensive than the President and Orra S at $80, but I have to say, I was impressed with what I saw and felt.

i did not know falcon had reels, i tell ya another manufacter i never paid attention to was browning, they seem to have some nice stuff, i doubt your PQ will give ya any trouble unless it is a dud, i love my baitcasting version, great reel

The president was the reel that sent me to pflueger for good. My Penns were literally falling apart on outings, and my Abu was ok, but started to give me flex issues when landing larger fish like gears mis-aligning. All my reels are now pflueger. The presidents above and 2 supremes, plus a Patriarch. All of them are smooth and trouble free

I bought the Carbon spinning reel and all I can say is JUNK! I could not evan turn the handle. My buddy also bought one and he got to use it two times B4 he had to take his back. Just buy a good reel like the President!

Now I love my Carbonlite BC reel.

I have heard nothing but bad reports on the carbonlite. Go with the President. They are to spin fishing what Curados are to baitcasting.
