Will these guides on the older berkley lightning rods hold up to braid (not the shock version)? The model pictured below.That is all.

I use one as a frog rod with a pflueger echelon spooled with 50# power pro I haven't had an issue in 2 years with it and iv cranked in alot with it and by alot I mean a tree branch about 12ft long and 8" around at the biggest part I got wrapped around and dragged it off one bank and over to the bank I was on lol good rod for the money.

I have been using braid on one for a couple years and have not seen any wear on the eyes

They are terrible guides if your want to use a leader with the braid.

It's my understanding that it's not necessarily the braid that damages some guides, but the grit that accumulates in the braid from fishing in dirty water.

You are correct. The material that the superbraids are made of is basically plastic.

Silica particles embedded in the line is what does the damage.

Yeap they'll do fine. I gotta 7-8 year old fenwick venture that has em. Never used anything but braid on that rod. No issues

A year and a half on mine with no issues at all. Go for it. PQ with 65lb is my frog/slop outfit as well.
