Braid Line Snap

Featured Replies

Greetings,

This is a question. I was fishing with 10# braid using a baitcaster. I a felt a big bite and at that instant I go to set the hook the line snaps off at the reel. My suspicion of the cause was the braid being tangled up in the spool. Thats my conclusion. I retrieved the line with the hook and the worm out of placement due to the result of the bite. Is there anyway I could of kept my line from snapping, besides constantly resetting the line in my baitcaster?

Yeah, dont use 10# braid. That stuff is made to be used on a very light spinning set up. The point of braid is to be super strong. With a baitcaster you want to stick to a similar diameter that you would use if it was mono or fluoro. So that being said you need to use a 50# or 65#. You wont have to worry about line snapping, or the line digging in on itself when setting the hook.

Thank you LgMouthGambler, that makes a lot of sense to me.
