Double Secret Pond Report

So I went to a crawfish boil up in Ashland, Virginia on Saturday and asked the host if I could have any of the leftover live crawfish. He said "yes" so Sunday morning I drove to Ashland and picked up about 100 live Louisiana crawfish and a bunch of dead ones, too.

Drove for an hour to Dinwiddie county and the double secret pond and started throwing the live crawfish into the grass. The mudbugs hid in the grass and bottom slop.

I threw about 20 dead crawfish into one area and there were about 10 floating on the surface.

I took the cooler back to the SUV and when I returned all mudbugs floating on the surface were gone!

I looked into the clear water and the catfish were all over the place. They are about 3 to 5 pounds each and we treat them as pets.

I threw a black and blue 3/8 jig with a Rage Craw and it was hit on the way down. I thought I had a beautiful lady on the other end but it was a catfish. The five pound cat totally destroyed the jig. Ripped the skirt and rattle off and tore the Rage Craw to bits.

Caught another cat on a peanut butter and jelly jig which was not as torn up. He was a small one, about three pounds.

I hope the crawfish can make it thorugh the summer, fall and winter and produce some off spring so the bass will have another food source in the pond.

By the way, only fished for about 10 minutes as I had to return home and help a friend put a slide and swing set together for my grandson.

Oops! Got my history backwards. It was MacArthur that said "I will return!"

General Patton was over in Europe kicking some fannies around.
