Trailers

Featured Replies

OK I can find several posts talking about how great trailers are, or what ones to use, but none on how to tie one onto a lure. I've heard they can be effective, so can anyone point me to a good resource for this?

I'm not aware of any that you "tie" on , most just put it on the lure hook. Trailers are added to increase the bulk of the lure for attracting larger fish, making the lure fall slower, changing the profile, allowing for a slower retrieve, etc.

A popular one is a crawfish shaped plastic bait on a skirted jig. Another one is a twin-tail short worm on a spinnerbait (aka: spinnerbait trailer). Some use a small swimbait as a trailer on spinnerbaits.

The spinner bait one is the one I'm interested in, is there a way to rig one or do you buy them?

Here's a setup I use, this is together.

Here it is together and separated.

Pretty simple, the jig here is a Strike King football head jig, and the trailer is a rage tail lobster.  Only thing you really have to do is slide the bait onto the hook and make sure it sits straight.

I kinda got confused, I once saw a picture of somthing on a line behind a spoon, it looked like a little plastic grub, and the caption identified it as a trailer. I thought it was somthing you just rigged up.

these days, many people do refer to it as a jig & pig, though technically, a jig and pig is just like it sounds.   A jig with a piece of pork on it.
