I got it from my olde brother and i was wondering if i could use a upgrade or is this a good pole? I mostly bass fish with the ocasional catfishing and bluegill.

Looks like a generic spin cast reel to me... he must have got it from academy, they own the brands H2O and ALLSTAR.... one of my setups is currently an H2O b/c on a H2O rod... i dont have any complaints with it at all... cool thing about these brands is once they break or mess up on you, take it in to academy and theyll replace it

I believe that is Silstar not Allstar. From what I can see its a inexpensive combo based on the graphite body and spool. Also I looked it up on eBay here's the link to the reel http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com/viewitem?itemId=320914703832

. For bluegill it will probably be ok but catfish you might have problems.

On a side I have a coffee table that looks just like that. Does the top lift up so you can use it as an eating table while watching tv? I

That's a spinning setup, not spincast. Spincast reels are "closed face" reels, like the Zebco 33.

A micro light combo is a little under-powered for bass fishing and way under-powered for catfishing.

i know nothing about fishing poles and what makes them good or not. I guess i just want to know the minimum i should spend with it being better than what i have now. A little help please! lol

Silstars, IIRC, were the mainstay in Walmart's fishing line back in the day on the cheap. I believe they were made, or at least marketed by, Pinnicle. Not a great make but adequate for pond fishing for bluegill and crappie. They did have heavier tackle for bass and cats. We used to keep a few around the house for visiting family to use so they could keep their skinners off the good stuff.

The two things that you want to fish for are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You will probably need 2 different set ups one for each kind of fishing . If you can only have one set up and want to keep it inexpensive (as much as you can without sacrificing a whole lot of quality) the get a 2500 spinning reel and a 6'-7' medium power spinning rod.
