Fishing Rock Bluffs

Recommended Posts

There is a rock bluff in a lake that I fish but I haven't had much luck catching bass on it but they have to be there. Especially in these hot summer months. It drops to about 25' probably fifteen feet off the bank. Any tips on catching these bass?

They don't have to be there, eventhough it may look enviting to you, something about it may not appeal to them.

All bass hold to structure, but not all structure holds bass, what you need to do is fish that area all day and watch your sonar, note the time of day they may pass that location, if at all, it may be just a place they use to travel during the spawn on their way to the shallows, or back to a place to where they use for something else, regaurdless it may not be a place they choose to travel at all.

Ok thanks. The reason I think it may hold bass is because we have loaded the boat with crappie there before and a lot of times on this river the bass and crappie are around the same type of cover and structure. But the crappie only get there in certain times of year so like you said the bass may do the same thing.

its just a long shot guess but during these hot summer months those rocks hold heat and will heat the water around them and although that rock bluff structure may hold fish at depths less than 10-12 feet, they may find somethin more appealing once that hot water pushes em deeper. however, i have had luck in hot months on rock bluffs, but it has generally been early mornin or after sunset.
