My Set Ups, And What I Should Be Using Them For...

Featured Replies

So basically my question is this.... I am currently expanding my baitcasting arsenal. I just picked up a baitcaster at the beginning of spring and I am completely addicted to their ease of use and how much faster I can fish. So far I have....

6'6" Medium Heavy Fast Carbonlite rod w/ carbonlite reel. Currently using for spinnerbaits / chatterbaits

7' Medium Heavy Fast Extreme rod w/ extreme reel. Was using for cranks, but now that I purchased the set up below, it needs a new duty. Probably either switching it to a top water rod / flipping stick (until I can purhcase a dedicated flippin stick)

7' Medium Fast St Croix Triumph with BPS pro qualifier reel. Just purchased, intentions of using it for lipless cranks and smaller crank

And a spinning set up I use for most weightless worms and drop shots, etc .

Do You guy agree with what I am using my current set ups for? What do you recommend my next purchase to be? Perhaps Keep in mind I don't have the cash to go out and buy every set up I need right now. I am just trying to cover my basics , and then get into more specific set ups as I go on. Thanks for any future input!

Your next purchase should be a small boat.

I would rather have just one setup and a small boat than 4 or 5 setups I spent 600 or 700 $ on and still be fishing from the bank.

to, me you have it pretty much covered. i use a moderate action for cranks, if you are fishing around heavy cover that 6'6 could double as a treble lure(popper, spook) topwater rod, then if sparse cover you could use the 7 M for topwater aswell, MH is really to heavy for most topwater, again unless your throwing to the hard stuff, i use a 6'6 M carbonlite and have no prolbem slinging 1/2 oz spooks a mile. your 7 MH could also be a t rig or lite C-rig, swimjig rod, usally 7MH is the allaround rod.

I thank you for your input. I however do fish from boats, mainly rentals, and have a large group of friends, all with boats, that I go out with quite often. A boat of of my own is on the horizon.... however... I just recently purchased my first home, and right now rushing into buying a boat is not really a concern of mine. I have the money, but their are other things It will go towards, mainly on the home improvement front. I will, within the next two years, own a boat, and it will be a nice one. Adding a 130-160$ baitcasting setup every 3-4 months is not a big deal, and it all plays into the plan.... that when I do have a boat. I'll be prepared.

I wasn't trying to sound mean at all .

I just see a lot of guys spend a lot of money on good fishing gear making the boat the last purchase or never buying one.

Getting out on the water is the best way to fish . I have a friend now that has spent about $2000 on nice rods and reels but has to rely

on me or other people to get out on the water.

I told him the same thing after his first purchase of about $400 for a rod and reel .

I said buy a small boat . It wasn't a jab at you and I apologize if it sounded like that.

Congrats on the new home. It sounds like you have all your ducks in a row.

lol, i want a boat, but i beleive at the moment, i need somthing to pull it with, so i am deep to begain with.. it sucks not haviing a boat, RIP, all my uncles that had a boat have passed away and the other one just stopped fishin, sorry to go OT, you are an adult so ya know how to save, So id just split, pimp rods and a boat fund lol..
