Excited To Fish This Pond In The Am. How Would You Fish It.

Featured Replies

I am fishing this pond tomorrow from around 5 am to 12 pm. The lake features a dock, several coves with patches of lilly pads, and several lay downs. There are several lay downs, brush piles, and patches of lilly pads in the northern part of the pond. The water has 2 ft of visibility and is probably 10ft deep in the middle. I don't have a fish finder, so I don't know if I will be able to find them in the middle. I'm thinking of throwing a frog or buzzbait around the lilly pads in the early am, and then switching to a t-rigged trick worm as the day moves on. Towards the end, I might switch to a jig and flip the lay downs. How does this strategy sound?

Here's a picture. Thanks guys!

The coves and the points they define. Top water in the coves, shakey head on points. Plastics along the shore. And I'd def hit that dock ; h

Dock - fish all around the dock with topwaters in the AM and then flip and pitch a wacky Senko or shaky head around and under the dock. Throw crankbaits parallel to and in front of the dock. If the sun is out the bass will use the dock for cover.

Lilly pads - Topwaters and plastics into and on top of the pads. Frogs and buzzbaits, too. Throw between pads. Look for any unusual features like openings, small indentations of the pads, any pads by themselves, wood or other structure in the pads. Drag a pink or white trick worm across them. Fish all around them with a wacky Senko.

Several lay downs - Plastics, spinnerbatis, crankbaits, jigs and just about anything you want. Throw to the front of the laydowns (farthest from the shoreline) with plastics and then work yourself back towards the shoreline with plastics. Many casts from different angles. Throw a crankbait parallel to the trunk. Throw your jigs and plastics INTO the wood. Retie after catching one or two fish as the wood will tear up your line. Always check your line for nicks and chips and retie as necessary.

Brush piles - Throw plastics many times from different angles. Hit it with a spinnerbait or deep diving crankbait. Fish every brushpile you can find. Wacky senkos, drop shots, shaky heads, Don't forget your creature baits, too.

The water has 2 ft of visibility - Bass can see three times the distance than we can so they can see your bait from 6 feet away. Throw anything you want! Remember, if water is stained go with a darker color like Junebug, black grape or just plain black plus Firetiger crankbaits. If the water is clearer hit them with green pumpkin with black flake plastics and your favorite color of crankbaits.

Probably10ft deep in the middle - Super! Fish the bottom with plastics. Consider throwing a Carolina rig and crankbaits and spinnerbaits.

Your job is to 1) find the fish and 2) determine the pattern.

Add into the above formula what the guys have said, too. You can't go wrong. Once you find the pattern stick with it until it changes.

WEAR YOUR PFD! EVEN IF YOU ARE IN A POND YOU CAN FALL OUT OF THE BOAT.

Post pics!!!!

By the way, the dam area is the deepest part of the pond. As you fish the shoreline down to the dam be ready to hit the dam area with everything you have.
