So I am going to Hayward Wisc. this August. I have never been in the area. I will be on the Brule river some of the time and my family has rented a cabin on Long Lake. First off, ill be looking for a guide to take me and my brother out muskie hunting. If there are any recommendations on that front, thated be great (kinda unexpected though). What I really want to know is if anyone has any fishing experience in the area they would be willing to share Basically, what other bodies of water should I try? My family is intent on fishing for walleye and muskie but I really want to find a place to catch a nice bass. Any trophy producing lakes in the area? FYI: for me, a "trophy" would be anything 6+.

I can not give you any advice. But I would start lifting weights now. I do not know if you have ever thrown muskie baits for any period of time. The baits range from a few ounces to over 10 oz..

Up that way you will have better odds at muskies or walleyes. There might be nice small mouths up there. But a 6lber might be hard. There more or less in Green bay. Large mouths you might get them. But it will be far and few between.

I'm actualy from tomahawk.. But, musky's will be a fun time forsure, but walleye might be a little harder due to the indian reservation and they liking to spear around there. Bass wise, shot in the dark up there. Hope you have a lotta rigs pre set up lol

King Midas: I'll be in Cable WI, about 7 miles north of Hayward in August. We've been going to that area every summer for almost 20 years. Great area and so many lakes to fish it would be impossible to list/fish them all. As for Guides; do an internet search for Hayward fishing guides; there are many and they are all good. We fish Lake Owen which has Small and Large Mouths, Northern Pike and Walleye. Without Muskie it's almost off the radar screen for that area. Almost everyone that fishes goes for Muskie. Brule or Bois Brule River? Cuz if you are hitting the Brule River, head the extra couple miles to the Menominee for some real good smallie fishing.
