I'm being dead serious. The last few days most of the fishable areas of my lake has what looks and smells like floating crap. Two days ago I thought that it would be a great time to throw top water frog. I might as well have been casting it onto concrete. Majority of it was relatively hard. But even the softer crap causes havoc with every cast covering any lure in a nice coating.

I'm not giving up or trying to sound like a whiner. But does anyone know what this stuff is or how to fish it from the bank? Last year we had some stuff like this but it stayed in one area of the lake. I'm almost certain that bass are hanging around under it. I'm running out of tricks in my little bag of bass knowledge.

The lake I am currently fishing has it too. Sort of a gunky slime. I havent found anything that I can fish with in it, Ive just been working the edges and open spots with a rubber worm, but even then, it still gets some gunk on it every now and then.

Use a paddle and make a hole in the slop. In fact, make a few holes in the slop.

Wait about an hour and fish them.

I know what you are talking about but I have no idea of its scientific name. I thought it was an alge growth from fertilizers or cows in the pond.

I woudl avoid touching the stuff if possible. If you do touch it, be sure to wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer immediately.

I think I have figured out the mystery crap. I was walking the north and north eastern bank this morning from about 6-9 and I noticed that there were huge spots of weeds missing that weren't missing last week (and going back about 2 months). I'm thinking that due to high temps and low oxygen in shallow water the weeds are dying in bunches and when they do they float to the surface. Since they were growing pretty matted it makes sense that they'd float matted. The weeds have a real nasty smell alive, so I imagine they smell worse dead. After the rains we had last night, there were hardly any crud floating on the surface this morning.
