This weekend a buddy of mine and I are going after the smallies, we are going to a relatively small lake in shield country (very rocky) that is known for producing lots of nice smallies. It's going to be around 90 degrees with little wind.

Where should we be looking for them? And what do you guys recommend to use for lures?

Depending on the depth of the lake, I'd look for deep, off-shore structures (humps, long points, rocky sections), that have bait balls associating with them. Wherever you find bait, you'll find smallies. Drop shot 'em and Good Luck!

If it's small and has lots of nice fish, you can catch them about any way you wish. Some presentations could be more effective, but fish your strengths first. If you put in early, try the topwater bite.

You didn't mention water color, and that may end up being the predominant factor in choosing the best depth to fish. And if it is windy, do burn a spinnerbait shallow.
