Smith Mountain Lake

Featured Replies

I'm going to SML around August 15th. I go every year and I have had success on 10 inch weighted worms and a few here and there on jigs but I've never really done great there. During this time of the year what should I fish at SML? And more importantly where? I know it's a huge lake and I know there is plenty of structure there...Should I focus on deep water rocky points, hard structure like trees, vegetation (if I can find any), or docks?

I would say trees vegetation n docks. If its anything like lake Anna thats what I would go for. Shade would work and vegetation since it provides cover and more oxygen for the fish

deep water docks are usually a good bet to catch a few fish at SML. overall, its a really tough lake to fish. when its on its on there. but when its off, well, good luck then....

the lake has a good crawfish population it seems, try a jig and craw in the rocky areas. but remember, shallow rocky areas, the rocks probably hold some heat so you may not have much success in those spots. id try deep diving cranks as well...
