Drop Shot

Featured Replies

My friend and I will be fishing a new local pond today. He is showing me how to drop shot rig with a worm. Is this much harder than regular worm fishing? Thanks! Joe

Joe, the secret to a drop shot is to LET THE BAIT ACT NATURAL.

This means to just stand there with the rod in your hand and a tight line and let the plastic flop around naturally without your interference.

You can fish a drop shot many ways.

1. Straight down to the bottom

2. Cast out like a Texas rig and bringit back to you slowly

Just remember to allow the bait to act as natural as possible and be ready for a strike at any time, even close to your feet as you are making your retrieve.

And don't set the hook hard. Just an easy swing over your head is enough. Keep line tight and reel those babies in.

Let us know how you do and post some pics.

Thanks for the info!!! What is the downside to a harder hook set? I have missed many fish with a regular weighted worm because I have either been too early or too late. I guess for me it is more about timing. :-)

It's easier than you may pre-think....Do as above...I bump the bottom with a slow reel to keep the line taught and you will feel weight on the end of your line, lift the rod tip as the fish usually hooks itself by then....Some of my biggest fish have been caught using the d/s technique.....It works esp. during the dog days of summer when fish are deeper and don't want to use energy chasing a crank or other faSTER moving baits...Good luck!!!
