Building A Rod Wrapper, Beginning

Featured Replies

I decided to try building my own rod wrapper. I know I'll run into a few problems as I only have a level, power saw and had drill, but I went ahead and started The pieces at the bottom attach to the ends of the standing wrapper via dowels, the smaller one goes inside it in one of two positions. I still have a long way to go, but what do you guys think of the general idea? post-7608-0-81682200-1347480405_thumb.jp

What you have so far beats the notched cardboard box I used the the first time. Put some soft material like felt in the notches and start wrapping. I like the extension you put on there. It will help keep control of the rod. What do you have in mind for holding the spool(s) and thread tension. For some ideas google on the internet 'rod wrapper photos'

Here is a picture of the one I built several years ago. I like it and haven't needed to do any thing else. What you don't see is that there is another portion a separate stand, simular to the ones you attach with the dowel, I use it for for supporting the rod. I purchased a couple thread tensioners and used small key hooks on the front of the wrapper to run my thread through. The big metal knob allows me to adjust the right side of the wrapper. I put felt on the inside of my Y's. You can get it at Wally world that has an adhesive backing. And I use a couple of my wifes nylon/elastic hair ties for tenson on the blank.

Just another option. Maybe to give you some thing to think about.
