Lew's Tournament Pro

Featured Replies

I have always been a Shimano user and thought I try the tournament pro after the rave reviews it has gotten. The centrifugal brakes look different than Shimanos though and there are only 4 brakes. Wondering if you have to set the brakes 2 at a time like the curados and chronarchs or can you set only 1 at a time?

Hey thanks for the quick reply. Good to hear that you can set the brakes 1 at a time unlike the Shimanos. That at least gives the user more options in how they want to set the braking system. Last question. If I wanted 2 brakes on can I set any of the brakes or is it best to use the brake across from the first one?

you can do the same with the Shimano I have a Core 50 that I sometimes use 1 break with.

The point behind using opposite brakes is for balance while rotating. You don't ever have to go opposites on any reel, it will just behave differently. Whether you can tell the difference is something only you can answer.

This is true, I own both and 4 or 6 is really irrelevant, I don't know anyone who uses more than 2 on either one, they both have more centrifugal breaking than anyone is likely to ever need. Personally I find I can turn them all off most times in calm conditions.
